Porsche Crest Fender upgrade question-- Sc or Turbo??????

I have justed completed my 27230 conversion on my 1977 911s and I was looking into some bodywork changes. I like the look of the front and rear bumpers from the C2 . I would also like to add flares ,but I'm stuck between going with SC flares or turbo look flares. I know if I go with the tubo flares that I would have to also change the wheels/tires right away , which would add greatly to the overall cost.

Are there any comments on which flares to use and who sells the best aftermarket product (bumpers). I know that I want to use steal flares .

Yes this is a " personal taste" kind of question , but what are the pros and cons of both.

Maybe some pics of your favorite fender style might influence my decision .

Thanks
Rick

What is a 27230??

Turbo flares are front and rear, SC flares are just rears, so to do the turbo fronts, you're gonna need new front valances, spoilers, etc. which will add $$$ to the cost also. But IMHO turbo bodied cars rock!!

Thanks rattlsnak

A 27230 is when you remove a 2.7 (27) change it to (2) a 3.0 (30) . I think the credit for this name goes to SOUK , but I'm not sure.

Rick,

I have a widebody conversion myself on my '77 S with 3.0. See pic. below. In my opinion the narrow cars (74 and up) look too heavy at the bumpers, the turbo flares makes the car look much better.

I would definetively stay away from the C2 look. Again a matter of personal taste of course, but I think they are ugly, especially the front bumper with the "oversize" lights in it.
There are lots of aftermarket bumpers in different styles to go with the 74-89 body. Just make sure you decide on the fenders first as a different bumper may be needed for the turbo fenders.

The original steel front fenders are very expensive, so fiberglass may be an option to keep the cost down(?).
If I was doing the conversion myself now I would drive the car as it is now and not do anything before I had collected all the parts needed. That way you can take your time to look around, and maybe find some used front fenders relatively cheap.

And remember that the 285/40-15 tires to fit the11x15 rear wheels are NLA (in case you stumble across wheels in that size)

Good luck!

I'm partial to this fender combination.

I think the SC/Carrera flares are certainly going to be the most cost-effective. Also keep in mind that you'll lose some straight line speed from the extra aerodynamic drag and wider tires. Not to mention stone chips on the leading edges of your fenders, and the cost of bumpers and flares all around.

But there's something about a widebody...

Jack's words of wisdom on aerodynamic drag are true. If you are tracking the car, realize that the wider turbo flares will have an effect on your acceleration at higher speeds.

In the 80's Porsche offered a Carrera with turbo-look bodywork. It had the same engine & running gear as a standard Carrera, but the flares & bodywork of a turbo. I believe the top speed was 12mph lower in the turbo-bodied car.

Nevertheless, I agree that the turbo flares are very sexy.
