Another speeding ticket post
Well I got one yesterday. Going down Sunset.
I knew that it was risky being the start of a three day weekend but was running late for a session out in Malibu. Got caught in a speed trap in the Palisades. He said I was doin 51 but I looked at my speedo when I saw him and I saw 41. There was also a car between us so I think he's mistaken on the speed but nevertheless I was speeding. I'm not going to court and argue that I was speeding less than he said. It would still be a ticket so it's off to school I go. It wasn't easy but I worked hard for it and earned myself a ticket.

Having read many threads about speeding tickets, I'd like to say that you should take it like a man and pay the speeding ticket...
Get a ticket lawyer. They are great at countering revenue enhancement tickets.

didn't your detector give you warning.. I've seen most HP radar on full attack mode in your situation because it's shooting fish in a barrel.. no need for instant-on mode with weekend drivers

Radar hmm why didn't I think of that.
I've lived here for 15 years and never gotten a ticket mainly because everybody speeds and you really do have to work at it to get a ticket with exception of the occasional traps. The funny thing is I knew I was gambling because I wasn't using my usual decoy technic on blind curves or hills.

Sunset = Radar revenue I drove on Sunset daily Motor cops lurking in driveways all the time. Near Will Rogers park they are just waiting to write you up. Also on San Vinciente is also a good place to hold it at the speed limt as Santa Monica PD works that area daily. Steve

In the evening, I like to take the 10 to the PCH, up to Sunset, all the way to the 405, up to Mulholland, all the way to Cahuenga/Highland and back home. I've done this drive dozens of time, and have never seen a patrol car.
Now you guys have got me scared. Am I just the luckiest Russian Roulette player at the table?

A favorite spot on Sunset is the straight west of Capri before Will Rogers park. Where did you get caught Bobboloo ?

Saw Jack's post about Online Traffic School, here's my story...
Left Traffic School right until the last minute, had no other choice but Online Traffic School - had to be done that night. I started at about seven thirty and didn't finish until nearly 2 o'clock in the morning - it should have taken less than 2 hours (apparently) but the website/server was playing up. I was not a happy bunny. Go to school, at least you know how long it will take before you enter... |

Re: Jack, Well, does your V-1 go off on that drive? Goes back to my theory that open eyes are better than detectors, as in noticing where you have seen them before, obviously you cannot see them in time if they are in a driveway, but if eyes are always scanning you will hopefully see them as you pass and remember.
There is no fail-safe way to avoid tickets if you speed like me, but it can't be luck that I rarely get them. Bobby, you didn't say exactly where in the Palisades it was, but the staightaway between Amalfi and Capri has been known as "ticketland" to locals for decades, as well as near the school just west of Mandeville Canyon. In general, the Police prefer not to sit in the real curvy parts of Sunset or a Canyon for obvious safety reasons, plus they will record higher speeds in the straighter parts. You of course can never say never, but play the odds. If you are speeding at the bottom of Laurel Canyon on the Valley side, (straight part), you are just begging for a ticket. How can anyone not notice motorcycle officers writing tickets constantly in certain locations, if they have ever been on the road before? The good news is that these places I have mentioned and others like them are such "fishing holes" for the traffic cops that they usually ignore minor speed violators because they can wait another 1-2 minutes and catch a BIG FISH, someone going 20-30 over posted limit. Plus darn near everyone is speeding a little. On a related note, I have not found that cops have it in for drivers of older 911s, in fact many cops are young guys, red-blooded American types who like fast cars quite a bit themselves. YMMV. ![]() EDIT: Bob beat me to the Sunset/Capri reference, I'm a slow typer. (But a fast driver).

I wonder if a carbon fiber hood and bumper would reduce the radar profile...?

Yep, Good old Laurel Cyn. N of Mulholland, That's where they have nice little logging operation going on too. It seem ever time I go thru there they are replacing power poles and K-rail on that one bad curve right before that house that's always for sale.
And when it rains forget it.

the last one I got was first thing in the morning, I was headed down to the main street ( I only live two miles from my store) the speed limit was 25 on the street and it has a major down hill slope. when you push off from the stop sign your already going 25 and with such a slope if your not on the breaks most of the way down your doing 40 before you know it, well there's two motors sitting three quarters of the way down the street sitting back far enought that you can't see them till your right on top of them. so as soon as I see them I know I'm dead meat, but these are city cops and I live and work in the city, and in the almost 30 years I've lived in this city they have never issused me a ticket they have pulled me over, they have told me to slow down but the have never given me a ticket. so the cop comes up to the window asks how's my day is going and asks for my license and reg,I think he's going to look at the fact that I'm a local and tell me to slow it down and let me go. well he goes back to his bike and comes back and hands me a ticket , doesn't say anything and is gone faster then I can blink. so by the time I get to my store I'm thinking gee what's going on around here boy has this town changed, so I get on the phone and I call the station and ask to speak to the chief. ( and I not kidding ) so I get the chief on the phone and I ask him what's changed in this town that they have to do speed traps on side streets ( does the town need the money that bad ) anyway he tells me I should fight the ticket , I tell him you know what happens when the cop is up there telling the judge chapter and verse, well I decided to fight it , I went a took pics, I had this great story and the cop didn't show up, every once in a while one gets lucky.

It seems like most of the traffic schools here in So. Cal are of the "comedy", laff-a-minute types of places, or so they say. Be careful. The clowns "teaching" these classes can be dreadful - that is, not funny at all. It seems there's an overabundance of "funny" guys between gigs and they've discovered traffic school as a warmup act. Honestly, the guy I had was not a pro but an ex-engineer who decided he'd earn some extra bucks with his repertoire of bad traffic jokes and double entendres that weren't in the least humorous.
I thought I had absorbed a lot of punishingly bad jokes as no one in the class laughed. At first, I thought it was the majority of minorities in class who may not have understood the subtleties and finer nuances of joke telling in English. But then I noticed I wasn't laughing either. Furthermore, when I looked down at my watch, it was only 9:30am and we had started at 8:30 !! Needless to say, this form of torture lasted all day - my punishment for speeding. I'll never do that again (take this particular class that is).If you have an option of subjecting yourself to inserting bamboo splinters under the fingernails or the class I took, opt for the former. Have fun, Sherwood Lee http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars |

Hi all. Here is the tip of the day from the busiest guy I know - me. I got a speeding ticket for the same type of thing - I wasn't speeding that fast, etc.
Anyways, I did this online traffic school: http://www.onlinetraffic.com . Honestly, it took me one hour and five minutes from start to finish. My sole motivation for fighting the ticket was I *did not* want to spend eight hours in traffic school. Definitely worth it, in my opinion... -Wayne
