Thumbs up In-car video with DL-90 telemetry

This is cool!! I bought a DL-90 data logger a couple weeks ago and used it for the first time at Summit Point the weekend before last. All year I've wanted to integrate the video with car telemetry. Well, I finally did it. Check out:

http://demoware.adrenaline.com/english/pub/HalfLapWithDL90-2.WMV

~17MB, about half a lap of the circuit. It's a Windows Media file, so you'll need Windows Media Player. I lost some resolution in the translation from DV video but it gets the idea across. Still some synchronization work to do, but a good start.

Veeeeeeeeeeeery cool. So let me understand how you did this. You played back the DL90 info and somehow captured it to a video image, and then you dubbed it into the real video signal? Neato!

That is seriously cool!
So thanks, Greg - now I have another toy to buy! Either that, or we will have to work out a way to drop the DL90 into other cars for a comparo run or two!

That's sweet! I love watching those on the American Le Mans high-lights.

BTW, did you notice that your drivers side dome light was on? Check the view in your rerview mirror.

How did you do this? I just bought the DL-90 and have only played a little. The track map I know how to work, but how did you get the rest of the display to work like that?

That's GREAT. Is it something you can break down into steps? I recently got a DL-90, and this is the one feature it lacks.

If it's not simple, we should get in contact with the developer of the product and make their software capable of doing this.

Wow!

Very cool Greg. Seems like 911s and geeks go together -- and I mean that in the most complimentary manner!

We all can't wait to learn how you manage to do something like this.

Tony, the unit is quite portable. Sharing / comparing would be easy, and fun. The resource intensive part is PC-based.

The RPM collecting needs some tuning. These runs were the first time I used the sensor. Since I having reading better. Between the thick magnecor wires and rubber sheathing around the inductive sensor it was dropping out.

Alan, unfortunately I'm missing SP and VIR next weekend. Taking my oldest to college ....

Chili, yes I did notice my driver's side dome light was on. Not in the video (honestly!) but just last week, a few days after the event. I was surprised it didn't kill the battery.

Jack, right now it's pretty raw. My original, entrepreneurial thinking was toys for track geekdom worldwide! MUAHAHA! I hope to have it quite a bit more user friendly in the weeks to come - plug your camera into a PC, start the software, select a DL-90 file and away it goes. You can playback in real-time (albeit on a fast computer) or create a DV file and edit (how I created the click). I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Btw, Race Technology (the guys that make the DL-90) knows about it and are interested in linking from their site.

Yep, I need a couple tick marks. It's scaled such that 1/2 the distance from the center mark to either edge is 1G. That seems
way high to me. The processed data show -+ 1.3 G.
