Center Door Lock Button Behavior

What is the normal lit / unlit behavior of the center door lock button in the console on an '88 Coupe?

My button is always lit unless both doors are unlocked. Is this normal? it's a little disconcerting driving at night and seeing a red light down in the console.

Thanks.

Mine is the same and gets brighter when you push it to lock the doors.
