Stone Guard Help

Thanks in advance for any help.

I just bought some 930 stone guards for the narrow body 85. I want to install them, but am having a hard time as to where...

A few questions.

1) Has anyone installed 930 stone guards on a 911?
2) How far above the rubber on the rocker panel (which will be removed sooner or later [probably tomorrow...]).
3) Do the stone guards go on top of the access panel (the 3" diameter cover) down there?

Again, I appreciate any input AND pics!

When I installed mine I had the bottom edge of the stone guard sit just below the top edge of the rubber trim, perhaps 1/8" or so. Yes, you install on top of the torsion bar access cover. If you need access later, you can cut it out with an xacto knife. The trailing edge of the stone guard will follow the wheel arch opening until about 3/4 of the way up the arch. You'll want to set the stone guard back 1/8" or so from the flat *face* of the arch. Spray the area with soapy water before you start so you can move the stoneguard around if necessary. The water will dry and your stoneguars will stay adhered. Hope this helps and doesn't make it more confusing

First, you want SC flares and not turbo. The SC flares are not as pronounced and fit the smaller flare of a narrow body car. The best way to mount then is to measure a height that is uniform on both side and allows the flare to extend below the rubber trim. Remove the lower rubber molding next. Place the flare so it has an even reveal along the front wheel well of the rear tire. Tape it in place and adhere 1/2 of the flare after cleaning with a degreaser. Next adhere the other 1/2. Trim if neccessary any flare that extends below the molding. Done.

Make following the arch of the fender the priority. Dont worry about the horizontal bottom edge being parrallel with the side molding. You will have it tucked under the molding by 1/8-1/4" when your done anyway. I wasted alot of time lining up the bottom edge and all it did was keep the wheel arch edge from matching up well.
Please make certain you are using the slim line carrera flare stone guards. Pelican has the ones you need. I was removing the carrera guards that looked like they were designed for the Turbo flair. Actually they were carrera stone guards just didnt have the nice taper of the Pelican Carrera stone gurad.

I agree with all the advice given here, like Adman I spent too much time trying to keep the bottom edge parallel with the rubber rocker trim, once I realized that was a waste of time it went quickly.Like the others here you will find that the bottom of the guard will be aprox. 1/8 to 1/4 below the top of the rubber strip. The soapy water worked great when I installed mine.Good luck.

I put the turbo stone guards on my SC flares and they look great. My brother-in-law put the smaller (Carerra?) stone guards on his and is jealous of mine! The procedure I used was the soapy water in a spray bottle mentioned above, but I would add in that I used a plastic bondo knife to "push" out the water once I had them exactly where I wanted them. It really is alot easier than it seems. Another tip is to make sure you park the car somewhere that you can step about 5 paces back to judge the fit and position. In other words, don't park the car in the garage about two feet from the garage wall when installing the rock guards. Ask me how I know?

Mark, use the magnetic stone guards. They look good and you can remove them for a different look if you get tired of them.

I removed the turbo stone guards on my Carrera flares and replaced them with the Pelican carrera stone guards and they look great! I guess opinions vary

If you need to access the tbar you don't need to cut the stoneguard. You just peel it back. A little heat would probably help.
