Interior Upgrades...

I did a search and did not find anything...maybe I should not even ask. Anyway, has anyone done anything "interesting" with their 911's interior. I have always been a little dissapointed in how worn/drab my 88's interior is and would like to see what others have done, if anything, to spruce them up. So far the 930s wheel really seems to look good but I have seen some interiors that combined black and tan seats/carpet that really looks nice.
Later,

If you look at the Pelican tech articles, there's a good interior one. Also, if you do a search with the words "show" and "interior" in the subject line, you'll find a lot of cool pictures of what guys have done.

Throw in some Recaro's and harness's. That will dress it up!

I think the 911 interior has big potental for an exotic gauge and red light alarm array in a restyled console, in the deleted AC center vent, and the clock hole. There are shops around that will customize any gauge unit to a cluster of 2, 3 , or 4 gauges.

One of the most interesting things you can do to your interior is strip it completely. Doing this tells a tale of any rust damage toward the rear of the interior, as well as confirms the status of rust on the floor. You'd have to do this anyway if you want to lighten the car up, so it's a good exercise.

Many if not most of the folks here are into lightening their cars. With an '88 you prob. aren't.

I would do a whole bunch of Google searches, and get some 911 books from the library to browse for ideas. Fantastic Porsche is one with a lot of unusual treatments. Make copies of things that strike your eye, and then go thru the copies to narrow the field.

I picked up several yards of black ultrasuede/alcantera and sent it out to Original Fit Interiors.

Center console, shifter, handbrake, door panels, rear quarter panels and lower half of rear deck are ultrasuede.

Door tops (delete lock knob), rear quarter top trim, upperhalf of rear deck (think wraparound vinyl from dash back to deck) are in vinyl.

Matt nickel paint: center console plastic, lock surround, door handles

I am installing new carpet now. Hope to have the entire job done in 2 weeks.

I highly recommend the ultrasuede and may have seats redone in it. It is os soft but durable, and cool even in the sun.

Sounds good to me.

I may want a piece.
I did lamb skin on another car. It's great for the top door panel, and arm rests, etc... but it can't take a beating like leather. so I'm using a vinyl now that's pretty close to stock on this car, for console, etc.
Do you think your supplier will sell me a 3ft X 3ft piece?

We have been very happy with this interior. Ripped everything out but the dash and started over. New carpets door panels and seats. Have yet to finish up the seats with a cork interior pads and cork floor mats but they are coming. ( a search under my user name will find several threads on the new interior)

We (wife and I) had some concerns about RS door panels and the PP Ricaro seats for storage space and comfort. Turns out both are better than what we started with and an extremely comfortable and clean set up. The new interior invites compliments where ever we go. Just did 600 miles over 2.5 days and couldn't be happier with the additional level comfort.
(It became a topic of discussion a couple of times after hours in the car and no pains)

Tracy likes her new floor board and Ricaro just as much as I do mine. Makes live much better when the other half can enjoy and feel as secure in the car at the same level as the driver.

What about the Grey Wolf? That is one of the coolest interiors I have seen, IMHO! Do a search for cegerer and click on his link. It is a car that I think the factory should have built. Great colors.

Thanks Mark. Here it is. Although I'm not sure how it would look in a later 911 ...... -- Curt

Ron,

I will have dig out the info on the ultrasuede. I bought it directly from the US distributor in NY, had to use my garage's info (non-consumer) to get it and there is a 6 yard minimum at something like $60/yard.

I should be getting the rest of mine back from John someday soon, if I have some left over, I'll let you know.

I was very tempted to do some cool color combos with the suede. They have every color under the sun, some rich, beautiful tans. My targa is red, so I had grand visions of mixing red and black suede much like the beautiful grey wolf above, or red and pewter or even light grey and "sand" which looks quite nice matched, but I like the subdued black and if I ever sell the car, it will be an asset rather than a matter of taste.

If I find the info, I'll some picks of the swathes, etc.

Im reupolstering my white '74 Targa with tan carpets, lots of tan vinyl, and black seats/dash/rubber. I think it'll be purdy when she's all finished. The previous owner had it done in blue/white and its was really ugly. I'm doing all I can to darken up all the white paint and silver trim with colors that will accent the car and give it some heart and soul. If I don't want to get it every morning, then I don't want to work on it.

I don't need 6 X $60 now. But would really like to have the distributor name, etc.. and part number.

And a small piece to eyeball would be great..

and for trivia. In Manhattan garment district is these small leather shops for the trade.. kinda like walking into a big hardware store full of every type of leather, suedes, sheepskin, etc..
but your stuff has been discovered and confirmed. so thanks. Do an e-mail and I'll send my address........Ron

I talked with Marie Hence, Toray Ultrasuede 1450 Broadway 212-382-1590

here are 2 palettes

here's the center console, you can't really get a feel for the suede, other than it doesn't reflect light, which is nice on the eyes.

Email is sbudka@nww.com

I used to live in the fur district. Never got used to guys jumping out of the backs of trucks with armfuls of 20+ foxes.

Lots of idea's here but I'm still lost on my interior. With the sepia brown as my exterior color it's hard to match a good interior other than the factory tan. Any Idea's?
