thermal reactors+picture

hi

does anyone have a picture of a thermal reactor exhaust system. i searched this site and could not locate any pictures. i would send one of our engine but my camera batteries died.
i am concerned that after a rebuild a few years ago with inserts, valve guides, oil fed chain tensioners etc. that the po's did not replace the thermal reactor muffler system.

the system on our car, has the exhaust pipes dropping directly into a heat exchanger and at the front of each exchanger the 3 exhaust pipes the merge into 1 pipe that goes into a 2 foot long cannister type of premuffler and then to the muffler. we are not sure if this is a thermal reactor type of not.

thanks

gary

It sounds as if you may have the dreaded thermal reactors. Get on the Pelican Parts catalog for your year car, pick the exhaust category, then click on the thermal reactors. A picture of the reactors and exhaust system is located there. IF you get lost emial me and I'll go out to the garage and take a pic of a reactor. If you have them and want to replace them I think I have a good set of thick flange thermal reactor replacements in the garage also. Let me know.

Can't follow all your description. Exhaust gas comes down out of the head exhaust ports and through three flanged tubes leading into the ~3.5" diameter "log" section of the thermactor which hangs under the heads running front to back. Exhaust exits the thermactor laterally to the L and R via one tube into the long exhaust heater exchangers. Not enough daylight to take photos, but post again if the PP diagrams and this doesn't help.

These are TRs. If you have them, they will match these parts. Exchangers look totally different.

That's a later system, maybe from a Carrera. It's good.

Gary.. it sounds like the original heat exchanger and a replacement tube system for the thermal reactors.. mine are made of nickel. both HE and pipe replacement are in storage now and probably worth $.02.. there is big time back pressure with the tube replacement.. I think I could make a bong out of the tubes, polish the nickel and get big bucks for them.......Ron
