Unhappy Horn - sounding for no reason - Help!!!

The car was parked on the street, near to our house.

Middle of the night ( 5.30 am ), no heavy rain, and the car horn decided to sound - continuously!!!!!! Not on and off, just one continous tone....

Needless to say neighbours for some distance were not impressed - nor the fire service who had been called out to a suspected car fire!!!

The car was stationary. It had been driven fine during the day. When I arrived the turn signals were not flashing, and the alarm remote control had no effect ( opened the doors ) but did not stop the horn sounding . . so I presume it is not a fault connected to the alarm system

I ended up disconnecting the battery to stop the noise.

- only possible thought:
If the alarm battery went flat - would the alarm system tell the horn to sound?? or if the battery almost flat - the alarm thinks the system has been disconnected - then if the battery power fluctuates the alrm re-arms with the restored power supply - and so goes off?

Anyone have any suggestions why this happened? and ....how to cure the problem, or at least disconnect the horn to I can drive to a garage.

Thanks!

You can start by pulling the horn relay on the front fuse panel so you can at least drive it. The inside of fuse panel or owners manual will tell you which one it is.

You might want to check your horn contact on the steering wheel.

My wife's Landcruiser had the same symptoms a few months back.
I had forgot to fix it, until the day she came home from work refusing to drive the LC until the horn was fixed.
She got a few nice looks, as the horn randomly blarred for the 10 mile drive home....pedestrians at crosswalks, families in the park,
other motorists etc..

LOL

Turned out to be a bad horn contact

I 2nd the horn contacts in the steering colum. Follow Wayne's book, the chapter about turn signal replacement, and it will become clear if that's the problem.
