electric window switch
I was rolling up the passenger side electric window using the switch on the driver's door. the window stopped about halfway up and at that point would only go down. the passenger side switch works fine (moves it up and down). Any "tricks" before I look at replacing the switch on the driver's side?

Take one of the switches that you know works and put it on the one that isnt working. If it then works, then you know its the switch...if it still doesnt work, then you know its something else like the window regulator.

sometimes all you have to do it pull out the switch and clean the contacts and crimp the contacts a little so they connect better. Also try cleaning the inside of switch.

hi,
you have to remove the panel; a ten minutes' work: remove all screws around, click off the opener mechanism, take off the handle, remove the cap at the lock button, unscrew. unscrew the pin of the 'locked' indicator. remove the panel carefully, the wires at the switches are not too long (so that you can mention their order). the switches are 'clicked' on the panel. and then... good luck pomaro p.s.: disassembling the switch could really turn out to be a big puzzle, but with a little bit of patience.... (i didn't try!!)

What to do when the switch rocker (the black pivoting tab you push with your finger) keeps wanting to fall out?
I think my pass. switch is beyond contact cleanup?

@ktl
"switch is beyond contact cleanup?" switch itself working? glue on the tab with 'very' little glue... otherwise... see above :-) greets pomaro

Here's a question. I would like to set up my car alarm so that when I engage it the unit would roll up my windows. Now, although my alarm is capable of doing that, will the windows roll up and that's it? I don't want them to roll up and have power going to the switch so that the unit ends up burning out the motors that drive the windows.

I didn't want to pry on the switch and tear up the panel. I'll remove the panel, probably replace both switches, the plastic door handle, and tighten the driver's mirror properly while the panel is off.

The switches should come out quite easily......pull them gently or pry them out with a large flat blade. I repaired mine recently when one of the tabs/rocker pins broke off. All I did was drill a small hole and glue a piece of plastic coated wire into the hole. It was only after this that I foud out that the switch is a relatively cheap item.
Inside I found two springs with roller ends that push the contacts. The lever can be put on either way..even though the pins are offset. Simply bend the contacts into a suitable position to make the contacts.....you couls test with a multimeter to see if the contacts are being made before you put it back in again. Hope this helps Mark..... |

Yep. Switch still works, but rocker wants to pop out of the switch housing all the time. Thanks for the advice.
