shroud colors

the color of the shroud on our engine is green,,in pelican parts catalog the green one is sold as the 74 75 carerra type and the black is the s type is this a good determination of the engine type? the heat exchanger exhausts on our 2.7 are the carrera style also along with the latter style muffle premuffler etc. just wondering if the engine is a carrera by some chance/

My '72 S and '76 Carrera 3.0 both had Red shrouds. I cannot remember which ones used the Green. There were also Yellow and Black.

Since the 964 and 993 came out they are all black

If it is a US market car, the Carrera and 911S engines are the same. If it is a ROW 2.7 Carrera (as in RS) engine it would be easy to spot, as it will be MFI.

A 1975 US market 911 engine should be type 911/43, and have engine S/N 645xxxx. Both numbers should be stamped on the case, at the base of the fan on the right side.

Gary,
For 1974, the 911S and Carrera used the same engine. For sure, the Carrera shroud was green...I think the 911S shroud was green also. I'm not sure about the '75s.

I think in general the highest horsepower motor recieved the red shroud and the next powerful motor recieved the green shroud. In 69' thru 72' the S was the most powerful and the E was the next most powerful and they recieved red and green accordingly. In 74' thru 77' the Euro Carrera was most powerful and the 911S/US Carrera motor was the next powerful and they recieved red and green accordingly.

The exception in this period would have been the 73' S which was no longer the most powerful but still retained the Red shroud.

My old 150 hp 2.7 had a green shroud - that is when you could see past the caked-on oil smudge.
