CIS system on 77 Carrera ROW
The car has suddenly started to run poorly when sitting for an hour or so whether warm or not. After it runs for five minutes or so it runs great again. There is no starting problem, it just seems like it is not getting enough gas and popping through the box. It doesn't seem like the WOR because as the engine got warmer it would run leaner. The AAV does go from lean to rich but since it doesn't so much matter how hot the engine is versus how long it has been sitting makes me think it is not that.
Does the presure regulator in the system seem like the culprit. Any suggestions. Oh course it starts running poorly when I am leaving a Porsche show last weekend. There is all these beautiful cars and then me popping away as I pull away. Though the car always seems to get me home, it likes to embarrass the hell out of me in the process. Thanks in advance. |

I can't speak for the cold start, but warm start problems like you've described with CIS are typically related to check valves failing to hold fuel pressure. I don't think your '77 has an internal check valve in its fuel pump like my '74. It could also be the accumulator. Cold start problems arise often from defective thermotime switch, which controls firing the cold start valve is block temp is below ~90F, which the car considers 'cold'. The thermotime switch could be working, but the cold start valve not work. Perhaps you have a combination problem, as you have symptoms of both scenarios.

Thanks for your response. I think I will start with the fuel pressure accumulator. Winter is coming so I guess I will wait until then.
