Heater backdate question...

...Why do it? And what, exactly, do you do?

Seriously, I know it is a dumb question, but I don't understand...

There's a *ton* of info on this if you do a search.

Why do it?
Well, for one thing, you can BBQ chickens in the passenger footwell, while you drive!
(However, I think it is more of a mod for SC's and some earlier cars, than Carreras.)

Simple question. If you change your exhaust to SSI's on later model cars, the heater connection does not fit the SSI's openings. You can either a: Use several types of modifications and try to split the one blower duct coming out of the fan on top of the engine to feed the SSI's. This can only be done once it exits the one hole in the sheet metal. Then you have to do some creative thinking to try to fit these. I've done this method first and was unhappy with the materials available and the overall look in general. Or b: Recreate the old style of exiting air on both sides of the fan that flows directly through the sheetmetal and into the opening of the SSI. Simple. Clean. Functional. I've done this and I am much happier with the outcome. If you haven't changed your exhaust, there is absoulutely no reason to backdate. Maybe that wasn't explained in previous post. Like Doug says, there is reason to backdate an SC, even if the stock exhaust is present. Backdating gets rid of a large volume of ugly, inconvenient air plumbing in the engine compartment.

SC's aside, my post was specific to 84 to 89 Carrera's. Didn't mean to confuse you.

Why do it?

If you go to different intake, makes heat system simpler. With TWM throttle bodies or PMO carbs, there isn't a clean mount solution for the blower motor mounting.

89911, how does the heat/defrost output after the conversion compare to the stock setup?

I just did this on my 1983SC,I added the SSI's and backdated the heat system engine tin, looks so much nicer with the fan housing and the associated plumbing gone and I have yet to try the heat, still quite toasty here in Florida!!
