Rear end noise help
OK, I finally got my new (old) 71T together and running. It is in pretty good shape and runs well except for this very loud road noise coming from the rear. It sounds like a scraping noise. Now here are the symptoms: under throttle it gets worse, coasting or in neutral it is quieter but still there, louder the faster you go, and not rpm dependant. I know both torsion bushing are shot and the trailing are touching the body. Could that alone make that noise?
I am thinking it is one or a combination of three things, bushings, wheel bearings, or diff bearing. I don't think it is the diff because it really quiets down when off the throttle. It seems like it is suspension releated, but I could be wrong. If anyone could give a little help it would be apprecieated. thanks

Sounds like it could be your CV joints.

It doesn't sound like the typical cv sound. That is more of a rythmic thumping. I know that sound well. This sounds like metal on metal scraping, or a worn bearing. Is it possible for some cable to be rubbing on a moving part? I haven't gotten under there yet to look around.

I just looked tonight and I see where the throttle rod goes over the CV and it looks like there is enough space. Anything else I could check?

OK, so I don't leave another sound/noise thread with a dead end I have a conclusion. Last night I tore the drive axels out and inspected them. They look like they were just replaced so those were not the sound. So I spun the hubs to see if the wheel bearings were shot. Sure enough the driver side one sounded like a train when spun by hand. I think I have my noise. Now I just have to replace the bugger. That will be fun....not!
