Fiberglass quarter panels

Does anyone know where to get fiberglass body parts (besides flares, bumpers and spoilers) for a '82 sc? Better yet, has anyone made any them self? I'm thinking I may try it... Any help would be great!

Getty Design does these. Nice stuff, but like all frp, will require work to fit.

We use Getty Design. . All of these aftermarket body parts require some patience for fitting, but we have found Getty to require less man hours than many of the other sources.

Rennspeed shows fiberglass quarter panels available. I think that is what Jack Olsen has on BB2, but am not positive. He may be a good reference?

Yes, my body panels are all by Rennspeed, and the guy who did my fitting and paint (KevinP73, from this board) liked them very much.

I ordered front fenders from Rennspeed figuring if they were good enough for BB2 then they would be outstanding for my project car. Fenders shipped to east coast well and fit was impressive. FWIW

How do the fibreglass doors do on street driving? Are they rattly and do they have any impact bars inside them?

There are a lot of different style of doors available. Mine are a duplicate of the stock door. They are not rattly, since I use stock weather seals. All in all, you'd probably never notice they were there...

...until you were t-boned and seriously injured because of the lack of side impact protection.

My opinion is that it doesn't make sense to run fiberglass doors on a car that doesn't have a cage (and, of course, your weight savings with the doors will be canceled out by the cage). So that pretty much rules them out for a street car, unless you're comfortable with running a cage in a street car -- and that's a whole other debate.

Since the quarters provide structural strength to the chassis. I would only use f/g quarters on a car which also has a full cage tied into it.

A secondary issue is the tendancy for cracks to develop where the f/g is bonded to the steel.

Thanks for all the input. I understand the points about structural integrity and saftey. What about fiber on the rear end of a targa? I'm not firmilar with Coupes, but it looks to my like the whole rear end of my Targa is one big piece wraping from drivers quarter to passenger quarter. I looked on gt-racing.com but didn't see any rear quarters. Also, on weight reduction, has anyone seen rear glass replacements for a targa?

The Targa rear quarter are seamed, its not one piece. It's faired with bodyfiller after install. I have no idea whether Targa f/g quarters are available.

Can you give us a ballpark figure of how many hours are required to properly fit a complete set (like BB2) of fiberglass body parts to a 911?
