Brake Woes...
I posted this morning about my Master Cylinder which has gone caput.
I just wanted to know from the gurus here if I can fabricate the metal ( copper alloy? ) lines leading away from the M\C or do you have to purchase that part? I mean, can I walk into the local autoparts store and find the gear necessary to replace one of the lines? I hope and pray that I can... If not, does someone have a parts list that could locate the part number? Thanks in Advance Michael |

I just get brake line with ends already on them at the outparts store and bend them to suit.

Yes you can make your own or have them made. Guys that build hot-rods, do this all the time.

Always use steel, aka Bundy tubing, 3/16", bubble flare 10-1.0 fittings. Line pressure can reach 1000psi. this tubing is readily available at most parts houses in straight lengths which will need to be bent to shape.
The steel is generally coated(around 1970 terne coated and later zinc and plastic outer layer) for corrsoion resistance. There are also some very good copper nickel lines available as well. Volvo began the use of 90-10 copper-nickel ("Cunifer Alloy") tube in their 1976 model vehicles and have been using it since. Audi began using this material in 1990. The other European cars using this material are Porsche and Aston Martin. Though when they started using it is unclear.
