I guess I don't know anything, as I have only owned and restored 10 911's over the last eight years. So for all you experts out there - here is your chance to show the rest of us how to own and restore these cars for less money. Great start below( they are all great in the begining)........

when someone writes the first check on this car for a front pan and other rust repair - the fun will begin - and this time next year someone will have spent the same $34k that has already been spent on Gary's car.

For Sale: 1973 911E, 112,000 miles. Motor & trans approx. 20k. Rare Chartreuse factory color. SUNROOF! Motor has J&E forged pistons, headwork, upgrade chain tensioners, etc. New carpet, and dash. Not a perfect car, but a great start for R Gruppe ripper. Tons of receipts back to 70's, original window sticker, showing all S options, from spoiler to brakes. It was an air cond. car, so it has oil cooler loop in front. There is no visible rust on body, other than some surface on door sills that was touched up. There is a 2" hole at the tow hook, all else is solid.
$13,000

RPM I don't think anyone denies that Gary spent a fortune on his car, but as we all know, you can never get back out of a car what you put in it. Most of the people on this list don't want a fully restored car. I for one get a lot of satisfaction out of doing things myself. I think where Gary went wrong was getting bent out of shape because everyone wasn't having an orgasm over his car and he felt the need to insult a couple of posters.

"Most of the people on this list don't want a fully restored car. I for one get a lot of satisfaction out of doing things myself. "

My thoughts have been on the car itself....and not to any person involved....as its the car that is for sale( and a very nice car at that). Perhaps you have hit the nail on the head, in that the majority of people on this BB don't want a fully restored car. Too bad for some people, because aside from the fun of the board( and buying waynes books) - the reality is that throwing money at a cheaper POrsche is more expensive in the long haul then stepping up at the begining.

Back to driving......

The reserve dropped to my trigger price and now I can't find it!

Was it sold?

I'm going to kick myself!

He got a GREAT car at a GREAT price

Well, the auction is finally over. We can all move on to a new car to post about. I have to say that as ONE of the TWO people who have actually seen and driven the car, it really is a great car. The winning bidder should be an extremely happy person. I was shocked to learn how LOW he went as a reserve/buy it now price.
I am sure many writers out there did not think it would sell for soo low.
As a member of the Early 911 S Registry, and RGruppe, I have seen many black 69-73 911's. I THOUGHT I had one of the best, with my bare metal paint job. This one has THE BEST, bar none.
As far as the personal changes made to the car, there is a thread on the Early S registry about RS clones. People should take a moment and read it. RS Clones with MFI 2.9 twin-plug motors/915 trans with 80% LSD are great cars. This car has the basis to be the best one at the next RGruppe meet, or ANY other.
I have been in the process of trying to purchase the car using a HELOC. I ran out of time. Not meant to be?
I guess I can still be happy with my 70 S Coupe with its ANDIAL built 2.7 RS Spec motor, and 915 LSD Trans. Or, my 1972 911 S Targa, as original as can be. But Gary's car, that will be the one that "got away."

That was a steal. I am interested in his Targa, I am sure not as nice, but would expect it to be nice.

Well, the new owner and I should get together because I lay claim to the worst black paint job in the world. LOL.
