Tail Question

Have a spare decklid and was thinking of adding a Carrera tail... Is the existing SC badge in the wrong spot? Seems like the holes needed for the tail are real close to the emblem. I'd really rather not have to fill those holes and repaint the decklid. Thanks in advance!

It would be close, but I am pretty sure you would need to remove the emblem (and fill holes) if you go with a Carrera tail. Even if it did just barely fit, it wouldn't look right with the emblem so close to the tail base.

I did the exact same thing you are speaking of on my SC. I had to remove the SC badge because it was several inches high.

As far as patching the holes, you don't HAVE to, as they will mostly be covered by the Carrera tail. If you look real closely at the base, you will see the bottom half of the lowest holes. Not really visible at all. You will need to drill new holes for the tail, and paint/ weatherproof those.

Mounting is pretty easy, but make sure to buy a new gasket that goes between the tail base and the decklid.

I chose to leave the SC badge off once the tail was mounted. I don't miss it. It would have been a pain to line it up and drill new holes. It also would have sat pretty low.

For comparison, here is a picture of a deck lid I had that came with a factory Carrera tail:

Th base of the tail will extend further down the decklid than those holes. So, add another 2-3 inches from the line of holes, and that is where the base will end.

Maybe on an after-market or Turbo tail base, but on an OEM Carrera tail, the mounting holes are within 1" of the lip edge. You can clearly see the "wear" from the base gasket on my previous pic to confirm this. If the base extended lower, the paint would show it.

Eric is right. That pic is my old lid. I took the tail off and the edge does not extend more than an inch below the holes.

Hmm. I guess I am having memory issues. Sorry! Time for a reboot....
