Self serving bump for those that might have missed the weekend update.

Ingo, have a good trip. We still need to do the throttle cable when you get back.

Fuel lines are becoming a small issue. I’ve been to two hose shops and they have no idea what the fittings are. Maybe Porsche decided to design their own fittings instead of uses one of the world standards. I’m going to get a hold of some old lines and use the fittings to have the new lines made up.

I plan on writing a little article when I’m done about my lessons learned and some of the conversion misconceptions out there. Has anyone heard that the rear sheet metal piece doesn’t necessarily need to be modified? Well guess what…

Ryan: Give Scott at California Tube & Hose a call. (818-280-5659). He's in Canoga Park, and is a wizard when it comes to making hoses. I'm sure he'll either to be able to reuse your hose fittings, or replace them. My guess is that if anyone can make them, he can. I live not far from him, and if you want to ship the hoses to me, I'll take them over to him.

Hi Ryan,

PMS has the fittings and hose. I ran -4 and -6 which was a bit more $$.

If you are talking about the two rubber lines that connect the motor to the chassis, Porsche only parts, I found this out wehn installing my 3.6, Kevin

Ryan,

I have a set of "timmins" hoses if you want a pic and can try to find out the thread on them if it would help. They are sitting on the bench ready to install.

You can do a lot better finding them yourself or having them made IMHO. Timmins charges an arm and leg for them and there is a lot of "blue sky" there...

Scott, thanks, I’ll give you a call if I hit a roadblock.

Rich, likewise, I’ll keep PMS in mind.

Joe, I had the calipers and thread gauge on them, we just can’t find any fittings to match from any of the suppliers. I've seen the Timmins stuff and prefer to find another way.

I’m sure Kevin is right and they are Porsche only, go figure, they had to reinvent the wheel. They’re not even German Standard, but then some we can match and some we can't. ???

I think I can get a hold of some old lines for the fittings. A nearby shop keeps stuff like that for when they run into the same kind of problems. If not, I’ll just have to throw enough money at it to solve the problem, BTDT.

How do you recommend the "return" fuel line? Timmins cuts the end off of the factory hose and uses something that I do not like that much and wondered if you have something better?

I know I am not going to win the "installers award" with this comment but here it goes anyway:

On my 74 Targa the fuel pressure line and the fuel return line where clamped with hose clamps onto the fix line ends in the engine bay. I figured what was working for 28 years at CIS fuel pressures up to 140PSI should be sufficient for the 60 something PSI of the EFI. So that's what I ended up doing. I did buy new rubber, though.

For the adapters I was lucky that I grabbed a couple of stock 993/964 hard/soft fuel lines at Haralds place. Those mated fine with the engine fuel line threads. That was all there was to it for me.

The toughest part for me was to cut off one of the swivel nuts on the hard fuel line to allow it to accept the rubber line/hose clamp. I did not want to damage the flared part of the metal line.

Score! I found this line at a local shop. It has three fittings that I need, two to the engine and one from the filter. One of them even has the 180 (almost) in it.

My hose guy says that he thinks that he has the other fittings worked out so I think I’m in business. I’ll let you guys know how it turns out.

BTW, all my fittings will be crimped to the fuel line. Other ways will work but I want a really clean install and those are really bad places for fuel leaks.

surflvr911sc in the engine compartment in the left corner is the fuel filter and fuel acumalator, the two steel lines run from the front then to rubber lines with steel ends, one rubber line runs to the fuel acumulator then to the filter, then a line runs from the filter to the engine, the other one is a return, if you disconnected it at the steel lines that runner under the car wrong idea, those fittings are the most odd ball fitting you will never find, you can buy them even here ill look up the number if you like, i have half of one line you can have its new, that way you only have to buy one new one, the fittings are porsche only, ok i went and found the line your looking for heres a link, by the way you then screw the new line to this line, i know sounds odd, i can take a picture of my car if you need it, look below, Kevin

Kevin, the link isn't to a picture.

What I have is the two hard lines coming into the engine compartment. I am have lines made up that go from the hard line to the filter, filter to the engine, and hard line to the engine (return line).

This fuel line gives me the two fittings for the engine and the fitting for the filter output. I need one fitting that connects to the hard line coming into the engine compartment (I have one already from the 3.0) and the fitting that connects to the filter input (which should be pretty easy.)

I really think this is the fitting your looking for, others will screw in but do not go deep enough to seal, the part number is c-356-089-01, you can still get the return or the feed, cant remember wich one but it works for both, im gonna go get a picture of the end I have for you to see and post in a few till then heres a picture, Kevin

Mike, Ingo was going to bring me one a week ago but didn't make it down. I got the wiring done and he is planning on getting one to me soon.

Kevin, that's the fitting I need. I have one from the 3.0 line but I need the other. I can buy a new line four $45 and use the fitting if I need to. My hose guy said that that one shouldn't be a problem though, we'll see. Thanks for the part number.

Ryan i went out and found the other half, i had to cut one in half because i used a barbed end on one side, heres a picture if you want it ill ups it to you tomorrow, the picture sucks but im sure its the end worth a try anyway, E-mail me your address if you want it to stew09@aol.com Kevin
