I had a '72T first. I traded it for a new '76S. It was traded for a '77S. That got traded for a pristine '77Turbo (930).
I bought a '70E that wasn't running very well. I advanced the cams to the maximum and put a new set of spark plug wires on it. I was absolutely astounded at the performance. It was great. This thing had the acceleration you would dream about. It was much faster on the street than the 930 was. I had the fuel pump worked over by Gus Pfister. If I had known of the performance of the E, I would never have bought the first four cars. Good luck, David Duffield |

When this topic comes up (and has repeatedly), what folks do not seem to realize that one can make a S (or E) from T. The cars are virtually the same except for the front struts/brakes and the engine. Why worry about about a silly VIN unless you are some anal concours, I-have-an-S-and-you-don't weanie. My 72T has a proper 2.4S MFI motor (I built from components, many secured from fella Pelican friends) and RSR struts with SC (A) calipers, effectively a 2.4S clone including a glass S front spoiler. Now about that S motor..., I have yet to experience this so called driveability problems on the street aside from the horrendously bad gas mileage (10-14 mpg max in the city). But boy do I live for the sound of my motor blaring out the two pipe center sport muffler I made at 5K or higher. Yes on tunnels and underpasses. I love the power on feeling and I track my car at every chance I get. Skip worrying about whether an E is as good as an S, buy a T for even less money and build it up to S specs or RS motor with the money you save. However, you rarely hear of fellas building up their T motor to just E specs, as the price is almost the same to make it an S if and that is a big if, you have the right luck to finding the S parts (stacks, cams and pump). YMMV
