930 pressure plates identification, please help!
Hello there!
We were looking for some junked 930 pressure plates to toy around with so we could puzzle something together for our project car. Unfortunately, nobody had any so we had to purchase one. What we got is supposedly used 930 3.0 aluminium-bodied lightweight pressure plate. It was dirty and rusty but washing and polishing-wheel prettied it up. Plate says "FISCHTEL & SACHS AG" , "3032 042 099" , "TYP MFZ 240". My factory manual says that pre -78 3.0 930 had "MFZ 240 FISCHTEL + SACHS" plate with "3027 076 000" spring (1955 to 2158 lb pressure). It doesn't say if it's alloy or iron. It's obvious that our pressure plate has some other sort of spring. Could somebody please enlighten us? We got it pretty cheap but we still don't know where this pressure-plate come from. It looks like this: ![]() ![]() Thanx! /Goran

Goran,
I'd like to help but can't. My early 930 PP is Alu. I don't know the #'s because it is in the car. Maybe give KEP in CA a call. They are usually very helpful Good luck

Hi Goran, I have one sitting at home that I removed from my '83 930 that I back-dated to the aluminum pressure plate. I'll check what numbers are on it and pass them along for comparison.

Hi Goran, well I looked at the numbers on my pp and here is what it says: "Sachs Made in Germany", "3082 090 131", "TYP MFZ 240". It's possible the 8 in 3082 could be a 3, however. Not sure if this is any help then. All I know is this pp came out of my '83 930 and this one is definitely an iron pp. Not sure what you have there. Hope this helps somewhat.

Thank you Timothy!
930 3.3 pressure plates were much thicker than 3.0 in order to accomodate rubber torsion-damper (a.k.a. "exploding clutch"). They also had somewhat harder spring. My understaning is that 3.0 plates were made in both iron and alloy. We'll try to lighten the flywheel and use non-damped disk in order to lower inertial mass. The search continues...
