Yet another tire question!

I have done my share of searching, and can't find an answer to this one, so if someone can help, please let me know. I have had my '76 targa for about 1 1/2 years now, and it is time for new tires. The car has 16" fuchs with 205/55 - 16 tires front and back, and I am 99% sure the wheels are the same width front and back. I think they are 7" wide, but not sure.

So here are my 2 questions: What is the easiest way to measure the wheels with the tires still on? I saw a spreadsheet on one of my searches that had rim width measurements for the outside of the rims, so I guess I can see what my wheels match.

This is the more important question: Can I put different size tires on the same size rim? I was considering 225/50 rear and 205/55 front. Will this work, assuming the wheels are 7"? Also, will I have rubbing problems with this size on the rear?

Thanks,
Mark

Well you can measure to the outside of the wheel at the bead, then reduce down to the next lowest full inch measurement. If your wheels are 7" then you will measure around 7.5" at the outside of the wheel bead area...

..and yes, if they are 7's you could put 225s on the rear and 205's on the front, assuming the tire fits under your fender. If 6's, 225 is pushing it...

Hi,
Go to bfgoodrichtires.com and they tell you what tires will work with what rims. I just put new cheap comps on my 930 because I'm going to use them up quick anyway.
