Pepsi blue :)

That is one of the best looking 911s I have ever seen. How much have you lowered the car all around?

Is that Nogaro Blue? (Audi)
Are those C2 rocker panels?

Two schools of thought from me:
First- Cool early color. I'm into Viper green but I reshot my car based on the code. (it's a '73 but an import from Germany), so I'm glad to hear Jack and others like bold yellows, although i don't think this is orange enough to be signal yellow.

Second thought is to go get a House of Kolor paint sample book. Theyhave some really cool dark metalics. They look nearly balck, but the highlights have hue to them.

here' my 911 as i was painting it in my barn:

That green car gets my vote....great website too. What color green is that then?

cnielsen 10-20-2003 08:56 PM

I never was able to find a correct color name. 1969 was a strange year, there is a lot of unknowns. I think it is Viper green but still not sure.

Thanks for the compliment on the web-site,

Chris

I believe that is Leaf green. At least that's what it's called in the States. Sometimes the same color has a different name depending on the location. For example: Viper, Emerald, and Kelly green are all the same color.

Viper green is the bright grean car in Jared's post.

Speaking of green. Here's Raven green with Signal orange right behind it.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1066717230.jpg

Chris,

What's the number on the paint tag on the drivers door post?

HawgRyder 10-21-2003 07:02 AM

I painted mine Guards Red.....but if I could have found a shop that had Electric Blue I might have gone that way.
Electric Blue was only used on the '66 Corvette I think....I have never heard of anything else that colour.
I also saw a fantastic colour on the frame of a Buell motorcycle...Nuclear Blue....almost iridescent.

My car is lowered over 3 inches on on stock fuch rims w\205\50 tires. Hard to drive on some streets, but it does not rub w\all the -camber I have. The rockers were custom made by some guy in N.Y. over 10 years ago. The color is pepsi blue. It's the color on the pepsi trucks. Also painted in a garage. I almost painted it yellow as well.

UTKarmann_Ghia 10-21-2003 09:50 AM

I really like cnielsen's green car above. That color looks ALOT like my old Karmann Ghia's "British Racing Green". Not sure if that's a technical color, but that's what mine was called.

tkrefeld 10-21-2003 10:10 AM

It's Signal Orange. Same color as mine

OK, You lose the color choice war, mine is only two weeks away from the paint shop. You'll have to find something else.
You HAVE to paint it Periwinkle! Since I backed out you are our only hope!!!http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat3.gif

Those Junior's house of color paints with the super metallic are like $6000 per gallon, no kidding.

Kemo 10-21-2003 11:21 AM

chris,

your green car looks wonderful, thanks for taking the time to post pics of the project.

cnielsen 10-22-2003 05:48 PM

Thanks for the compliments on the green car and the website! The paint code on the door hinge area is 63-6829. I don't know if that means anything to anybody but I hope it helps.

Beautiful cars! Keep the pics coming...

Chris

rattlsnak 10-22-2003 06:43 PM

Chris, according to the paint code, your car is Signal Green. It does look more like Leaf or Field Green though in some photos. The other one up the page is Raven Green.

Bobboloo 10-22-2003 07:06 PM

Well that's a mystery to me. In 68' Signal Green was 6829 which is close to your number but in 69' Signal green was R6001.

Your car looks close to Leaf Green or sometimes called Bush Green but that number in 69' was 62163.

Before 72' it's hard to make any sense out of the Porsche color codes because they had no standardized system. The same color would have different codes depending on the year.

Example:

6401= 64' slate grey
6601= 66' slate grey

Okay then,

6407= 64' signal red
6607= 66' signal red...right? Nope wrong!!

6607= 66' sand beige Go figure.

cnielsen 10-22-2003 07:43 PM

When we had the car painted we had all sorts of trouble tracing the paint code to determine the proper color. The shop mixed up a batch of paint that the code supposedly described and it was totally wrong! They ended up scanning the original paint and sending the info off to Dupont where they were able to match it almost perfectly. Love the color and Maaco did a great job. My only regret is that I should have had them put more coats on it. how hard is it to go back and apply more clear at this time???
