'72 Project, part three..

OK, I finally had some time to work on the RSR project. After only three weekends of work, it is almost ready to go to the body shop to get the flairs and paint. One or two more areas of paint stripping to go (door jambs, etc). Here are some photos. The first one is the doors. Second, the hood, with the rear flairs, front fenders, and the 7x9x16s in the background. Third the pile of boxes that hold all of my parts, like the rear sprig plates, bbs wheels, fuel cell, and roll cage pieces in the background. Fourth, the Ducktail and rear bumpers, and fifth and sixth, the car itself. As you can see by a project of this size, there are literally thousands of pieces everywhere in my garage!
I am still having MAJOR problems deciding what color to paint it. Although Periwinkle-ish is still in the running, so is Silver, Green, and Orange and a few others!!

Did you find much rust once you had stripped the paint off, around the door jams and wheel wells, doors etc?

Aussie, I found two small spots of rust. One on the left rear seat pan about the size of a quarter, and one under the left side door sill plate about the size of a dime. This car is in great shape overall!
Blown, Periwinkle is kinda of a blueish/lavender color. Think Crayola 64 pack, there is a periwinkle crayon.
I almost decided on the Konda Green, like in the above photo, but after seeing one in person on Sunday, I think im going away from that. Every picture ive seen of it looks great, but in person it didnt strike me. I do like Orange, but there are several cars in this area the same color. I want something a little different, but not crazy. Oh well, the search continues... but I only have about two weeks left to decide!

Bahama yellow is a really nice, unique color that is also correct for the period

rattlsnak 10-20-2003 10:55 AM

Jack, is that Signal Orange? or do you have a Paint code? It looks different than the Tangerine of the above picture.

Jack Olsen 10-20-2003 11:24 AM

I don't know. It might be Signal Yellow, or it might be a custom color. I'm no purist when it comes to paint, and to me that color looks great on an early 911, even if it isn't an 'early 911 color.'

Bobboloo 10-20-2003 11:36 AM

The car Jack posted looks like Signal Yellow.

The second picture that Jared posted is Signal Orange but it appears a little redder than normal due to the time of day the photo was taken. The green car in Jareds' last photo looks like Viper Green (also known as Kelly Green) not Conda Green.

NICE WORK !

hello, nice work to do for a winter project !
why not White Grand Prix !http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1066679206.jpg :)

Az911 10-20-2003 12:48 PM

I would go with a bright green color. Here is Jim Patricks 911

A little research seems to confirm that it's Signal Yellow. Here are some other samples:

Marc - Signal Yellow would look great with the flared body.

Cop Catcher Red is good. A very light pastel yellow...

I favor Gemini Blue for my next repaint. My Gulf Blue car has always had a very soothing effect on the cop mind -- been stopped 2 or 3 times but never had a ticket in that car. And where I live that's a great record.

I saw a purple 911 on this site a couple days ago. I don't know the color. I also saw an eggplant purple BMW the other day. Very sharp also. The white one looks good also.

jester911 10-20-2003 02:09 PM

The purple color, or eggplant is called aubergine. It is a great color. It almost looks black in low light but even in bright sunlight it isn't a loud purple.

Silver is always a good choice for that period car as well:D
