Free Flowing Muffler for Modded 930 - what's it worth (performance)?

The Euro 930s all produced 300hp due to a free flowing exhaust.
I have that exhaust on my engine with the stock muffler. Other mods include:

- SC cams
- K27-7200 Turbo
- B&B Intercooler
- Dump pipe on waste gate

Would I see a significant increase in power by ditching the stock muffler?

Waz up Rarly. From what I've read, you can't have too little back pressure on a turbo system. I plan on running twin straight through muffs on mine. Can you take your existing one off and take it for a ride?

It's worth around 20HP and little better spool-up.

Actually, turbo is doing pretty good job on hushing the engine so it's worth considering just one straight-trough muffler directly on turbo and exhaust pipe on passenger side. That way you don't need to do any complicated 180-degree bends and keep the weight low. My friend "Jocke" here at PP runs one of those and it sure sounds good.

It might even spit out some flames if you heat it up on the track...

RarelyL8,
My 84 turbo was dynoed with a B&B (2) out, and a straight
pipe. The straight pipe added 34HP and spooled up 400 rpm's
sooner. At first the straight was a 90 straight down, too loud it
vibrated the hole car. Now I have it comming out under the
lic. plate like a Boxster, better but still loud. At night it throws
a three ft. flame on boost.
The 85 twin turbo has a simular setup with three straight pipes
out the center, it looks like a rocket car at night.
If you can live with the noise, its the way to go.

I'm not really after more power as much as to optimize the system as it exists. This car requires a lot of respect as is.

I originally set the engine up with a dump pipe off the turbo. It was excruciatingly loud. That's when the stock unit went back on.
I have an aftermarket muffler that looks like a stocker but is completely void of internals - totally hollow. I have not tried this unit because it will need to be modified to fit the rear plasticwork.

So what I need is a simple system that optimizes power AND noise suppression. Any thoughts?

Just dump-pipe will be too loud, what you need is short perforated straight-trough muffler with nice perforated tip (to kill those high-pitched overtones generated by sharp edges).

Try this:

Rarly,
You might look at a Flowmaster single in and out.
I've heard they work great on 930's.
They sound great, not too loud.
Some of the guys at the track use them.
They have a website.

I was thinking about the flowmaster 1-in 2-out as an option.
Should be free flowing enough.

Beep - how does that shorty muffler sound installed?
I really don't want a loud exhaust. This car needs to sneek up on the unsuspecting who think it is all show and no go. Many a ricer have fallen prey.......

You want people to think its all show and no go? Now that's a new one...I've heard of people dressing up their cars with no intention of going fast...and those that want sleepers.

I have a GHL dual outlet muffler on my car. Its much louder than a euro muffler (factory without cat) but the results are worth it. There's not much inside the GHL can...
