Hey guys doing the final buts on my conversion, this seems to be the last problem, besides the oil light all the sudden not working, anyway, I turn the key on and the needle moves up to the line but never goes up any, where is the sender?, maybe i dont have it hooked up?, thanks in advance, Kevin

Senders will peg to the max if the 12v power is hooked to the gauge without a good lead to the sender.....

They need a good ground, a good lead to the sender and 12 volt power.

THEN another 12v lot power lead from the lights.....you might wanna see it at night....

Prolly a good time to use that meter that is itting in a corner of the garage...

If I understand you right, the gauge is getting power (needle moves a little and settles at the bottom of the scale) but never moves of the lowest point on the gauge?

The sender is right beside the oil pressure sender on the top front of the engine. Do you have a numerical gauge? If so the 3.6 sender needs to be swapped out w/ an early sender to be compatible. I’m not sure if the sender is compatible w/ the SC style gauge, but I don’t think it is either.

I assume that you used a pre-fabed conversion harness. Is the wire from the #6 pin of the 6 pin connector connected to the correct terminal on the gauge?

If you didn’t mess w/ the 12 pin connector on the engine harness or the DME harness then there shouldn’t be a connection problem back there.

BTW, I got the fitting. Thanks so much for going out of your way to give that to me. Unfortunately it was the wrong fitting but my hose guy thinks he has found what we need. Let me know if you want me to send it back or just pass forward to the next guy that might need it. Thanks again!

Thanks for the info, The needle moves about a 1/4 then doest move any more, thats only when you turn the key and its stays there, yes its probably got the 3.6 sender and i have the sc gauge, so at least i got a starting point, I just hate to drive it unless i know exactly how warm it is, I got my front mounted oil cooler in, im just not sure its enough.

Anyway, you can do what ever you like with the fitting, its not worth returning, when i was looking for that fitting, Steve T pretty mush told me it was a factory fitting only and he had looked everywhere for one, so if you find it, let wayne know because those lines are getting to be like 20 plus years old on some cars, also ill pass it on to Steve the info, Kevin

Here's a pic of the sender loacation on the back of a '93 964, there is a slightly different setup used on earlier engines

from the shop manual

#1 is pressure and #3 is temperature

There are only 2 different temperature senders thru '76 and '77 on.

This would be a good time to convert to the early number gauge and sender. Pelican sells the backdate kit which comes w/ both.

I think that the sender is very hard to impossible to get to w/ the engine in the car. You might have a shot around the right side & after you disconnect the wire connector you can put a socket or box end on it.

My fuel fitting is male threads & an external 30o sealing cone instead of the internal like the one you gave me. My hose guy found a fitting out there w/ the same threads but w/ a 45o cone and will turn them on the lathe to get the right sealing angle.

Well guys i think i may know why i have a problem, i replaced the motor harness with the engine in the car, i probably dont have the three wires on the right poles, this could also be the reason that my oil light dont work,

Bill do you have the wiring code for this, 93 3.6 i just need to know which wire goes where,

surflvr911sc thanks for the info on the fitting, this is a hose that evreyone putting a 3.6 in should replace as a while you were there thing, Thanks, Kevin
