Engine Fan Upgrade

Got a 79 3.0 and looking to make the best engine fan and shroud upgrade. Looking at parts book but still a little confused. Book says there is a 930 76-89 fan No. 930.106.012.00 but Different housing ie. 78-80 No. 930.106.006.00 & 86-89 No.
930.106.006.06. If the fan is the same which is best or difference between the two? In addition does anyone know if in the process of upgrading to the 11-blade 245-mm fan with a 1.67:1 drive ratio as used on all Turbos and 1980-and-newer 911's, will I have to replace my alternator as well as the inner air duct that cups over the alternator???? any help appreciciated.

I don't have my notes in front of me (others , please help)...but I recall there were 2 crank pulley diameters , and maybe three fan pulley diameters over all the years,.. with two of the fan pulleys being insanely close to each other in size ( 80 vs 83 mm). This is the ~ 3.25" pulley we often hear about. The other is more like 3.75" ( say, 95 mm ?). You want the smallest fan pulley, with the largest crank pulley. Again, I don't have my nores here, but you *may* have the largest crank pulley. Your concern will be a possible mis-match of the similar 80 vs 83 mm fan pulley halves. They have to match. The "other" half is part of the 245 mm fan.

My question is why? Is your car overheating?

Thats a good point about pulleys I will have to look into that. I thought only the fan pulley was in question of replacement.
Increasing the primary air flow past the immediate fin cylinders via increasing the fan size, for example, directly increases the overall margins of operating conditions in which the engiine can perform well in. Installing an external oil cooler is secondary to this. (my thoughts) Since my small 79 fan is chipped upgrading to a larger fan makes sense. Still looking for one... so if anyone has an upgrade fan/shroud combo please let me know.
