Had a GT3 for a week

This is the best production 996 out there. Fabulous car. Maybe the best U.S.-available production "911" Porsche ever. PCNA sent me one for a week, and I loved it. (Yeah, I know, what's not to love?) Anybody--ANYBODY--who says Porsche has lost its way has not driven this car. I don't know why anybody would pay $60,000+ more for a Modena (or buy a Turbo) other than the assumed exclusivity. Phenomenal optional ceramic brakes (although I'm hearing they aren't holding up), steering that feels even sharper than a normal 996's, though I don't know if it is, and absolutely instant throttle response. And there's something going on in the diff that gives a very limited-slip effect that you can really feel helping in the corners. At 8,200 rpm, the thing sounds like Gideon's trumpet

I'm jealous!!!!!
It's too bad they didn't make the gt2 like the gt3. I think the 3 looks better and the 2 should have been more top end savy with a 8k redline as well. Oh well.

The GT3 is definitely the best "step in the right direction" that Porsche has taken in awhile. I think it really appeals to all of us "purists".

A driver on our latest local group drive just purchased a GT3. It was three weeks old when I took these photos in Big Sur.
Turnout was very low for this particular trip. Two months ago we had 38 cars!

Try to guess which car belongs to me without looking at my sig :-)

This years GT2 does look like the GT3 according to Autoweek. I agree looks alot better than the old GT2

Do you think in 10?? years guys like us will be buying plane jane 996s and adding wheels, wings, suspension and interior delete stuff to imitate this car :-))

Good Gawd Mr Formerly--a CGT and now a GT3--you are the Kid Rock of automotive test drivers and writers. You drive the best of the beauties!

Damn shame such an excellent car is priced so far above their luxury loaded normal cars. And yes for ~$15K price difference I'd take the GT3 over the turbo every day of the week.

Looks wise - the GT3 flat out sucks. What is it - a Boxter, no, a Carrera? Who knows? Lotus? Toyota? Too bad, with so much performance it's still a very boring looking car.

Actually i can easily tell apart the gt3 from the boxter and carrera. And it's a step in the right direction, cause if porsche released a gt1 cayenne i was going to switch my enthusiasm to another car company.

We've had them down under for about 3 years now - very popular. I still remember the first time I saw one turn in at speed at a track, he just turned in and went and the thing was so smooth i thought he was going slow - then the times came up - he wasn't

A good friend of mine (my ex-boss), who is a hard-core, purist-type P-car guy ('72S, '73E), is selling his mint 993 C2S, after buying his 996 GT3. It's a 2000 model, which he adores. He originally envisiged keeping both cars, but he told me that the 993 now feels like a slug compared to the newer car.

I scoffed in disbelief, but then he gave me a ride in it. Electrifying!

I think it looks great, it could use a slightly more agressive front end more like a GT2 or GT3RS, but otherwise it kicks ass.

Steve, I'm beginning to see one huge short coming from you...

... no pictures!!!

We could have used some good shots from the CGT and GT3!
