Supertrapp options
I am putting Bursch headers on my car. I see two options for Supertrapps.
Option 1: Use these mufflers. Fab a short peice to bolt to the flanges on the headers. I think these my be too short? ![]() Option 2: Cut the headers back to the red line in the pic and use these mufflers clamped directly to the headers. I think these would muffle better. ![]() ![]() Essentially Removing the length needed to mount up a stock muffler. I am getting the headers for a good price so I am not scared to cut on them. Pros or cons to either option?

Supertrapps are very restrictive IMHO, unless you run them with no discs, then they are very loud. I think they are one of the worst mufflers you could put on a 911, especially a 3.6/3.8. I could not find a happy medium with Supertrapps. Try some flowmasters but use no larger than 2" outlets or the resonance will drive you crazy.

What about all the discs with open caps? I think that would flow good for my 3.2? I thought they would get more restrictive with less discs???

When I said "run them with no discs" I meant the end cap included. Yes you are correct the more discs you insert, the more exhaust you flow, but you still have the nice shiny RESTRICTIVE end cap to hold it all in place. Supertrapps are trying to do to much in a limited amount of space. I have one supertrapp left, 24" I believe with an O2 bung welded in it. I personally don't like the way they sound. If you are going to cut the headers bach, you may have room for a set of Coast Fab mufflers. Sweet sound, no restriction.

Other options I'm considering- I have no direct experience with these:
http://www.spintechmufflers.com/spintech/spintechindex.asp The "Pro street" from above. I'm thinking it might get me black flagged at laguna seca, though, if I used it alone. Light, and they might not look bad tucked up under the car and painted black. Also: http://www.quiethorsepower.com/images/side%20914-6%20.JPG Phase 9 mufflers. These might also be pretty light if the resonance box was removeable (for when I'm not at laguna). Anyone have pics of these for a 911? I believe both of these have a pretty good db reduction to flow ratio, and they should reduce significant weight comared to almost anything else. I'd cut the headers down to fit them. Pete

I ran Supertrapps for years on my 2.7 with "European Racing Headers". I ran 18 disks in them in lieu of the typical 12. I, personally, loved the sound.
Option 1 would cause blood to come out of your ears. Option 2 is a better idea. It essentially replicates what I had. Even with option 2, you'll be setting off car alarms on a regular basis. BTDT. Mike

I've never thought much of Supertrappes either. Flowmaster or even better Coasts are the way to go. There are several east coast race car useing the Coasts they sound great!!
My Flowmaster/Fabiani had a slight resonance at 3.6l w/ B&B headers which went away at 3.8l same headers. Coasts sound better though.

I like those Coasts, bill. Any idea what kind of dbs the guys that run those are putting out? I assume they do 2 of the longer ones?

That pic would be for a 914, unless you've done some minor mods to you 911... I did find this, though:

The JWE/Peter Weber setup in SS was $3300 the last time I checked. I went with a mild steel version for less $$$ and had it JetHot-coated in flat black. It also has sleeved V-band clamped flanges instead of the 2-bolt diamond flanges as in the picture. Not as pretty as those, but my setup does work well. I just don't have any pics of it. For tracks where there are no sound regs, I have straight pipe extensions that clamp on to the Phase 9s and the crosschamber is removed to save weight. They are over 100 db that way at full song with my carb'ed 3.4. TT

Pretty significantly.....ask Hal Michaels "Halm" how it sounded...he stopped by after he picked his car up from Otto and I gave him a freeway ride.....had to get around a Corvette that was playing "pokey" on the onramp....
