Locks revisted
After reading all the threads on door locks, I can clearly see that this seems to be a common 911 problem.
Specifically my problem is that the door locks seem to choose when they want to work. One day they will work fine, all day. Then they wont work for a week. On and off, on and off. Before I take apart my door to look to see what exactly is up, Id like to ask what specifically should I be looking for. A couple of threads have revealed numerous possible problems; solenoid failure, actuator/wiring failure, but the most common was the breakage of the plastic ball+cup. Since my locks go on and off at thier discretion, which issue is most likely to be it? BTW, when i press central locking button (i also have remote alarm/locking), there is a quiet click as though it was trying to lock it but couldnt. The doors unlock fine using the button. -Matt, trying once and for all to fix this. |

Here is a picture of the locking mechanism now. Everything seems to be look OK in this picture.
I have a few other pics but they are like 400KB, to get them under 100kb it seems I would have to crop off most of the picture, how do I put a quality pic onto my post? thanks - Matt |

i wonder whether its worthwhile you stripping and cleaning the barrels. i bought a new lock/key because the key wouldnt operate the lock, and turned out it just needed a clean! could apply to central locking?

Nevermind on the pic post, I just needed to resize them.
Here is another pic, the clicking sound comes from in there, the locking failure could be in there perhaps? And here is a picture of the whole door. Thanks again. |

also, try disconnecting the rod at the door handle and see if it operates.

tried disconnecting the rod at the handle and locking it, didnt work. thanks though.
I can manually press the lock up and down to lock and unlock it. Doesnt seem to require any force. Im having trouble getting the window switches off as well. If you could sorta tell from the pic, my door panel is hanging from the window switches at this point. -Matt |

One more thought:
When Im sitting inside the car and lock the door manually, and then press the unlock button, a little rod inside the door frame pushes upwards to lock the door. When I press the locking button again, it appears that this little rod attempts to push up again, rather than pull down. Could something electronically be messed up to the point where it constantly thinks the car is unlocked? Im afrad that because it works on and off, that someone physically isnt wrong with the locks, that it is something electrical. BTW the failure is in both doors. -Matt (preparing to put his door back together) |

I would guess that the connector between the door lock solenoid and lock is NG.
