Recaro SRD questions

I did some reading and find the SRD may fit my bill and body style well. I have a few questions remaining for the install in my 81 SC sunroof coupe:

Will these put me any lower than my worn stock seats? I am 6'3" and hit the roof when wearing a helmet.

I have a weltmeister style harness bar and a set of 5 point harnesses that I want to use. Will I need the SRD with the cutout for the sub belt or can I run the one without?

Do the SRD indeed not fit well when using the DAS rollbar? I hope to install that bar later sometime. How about the drill-hole style bars?

THANKS!

George

I have a set of these seats and if you've been doing some reading, you've already heard that they are great.

I have the sub belt cut out. If you're going to use a sub belt I'd get it, but that's just my opinion. I'm not sure it's completely necessary, but it seems like the belt would do it's job better with the cut out.

It is my impression that you do sit a little lower in the SRDs.

It's a tough call on the height. I don't seem to be any "lower" but my body position is MUCH better in the SRD's than in my old Sport seats. You actually sit IN the seat and can put your head against the back of the seat. Much better positive driving experience. I love mine. As far as the other stuff, I'd definately do the cutout with a sub. The seats are a bit higher in the back so I'm not too sure about the roll bar.

Depending upon the Porsche seat you compare agasinst ( normal vs sport)...in most cases the SRD's don't put you lower.

FYI: I have worn non sport stock seats.

Which similar seat will put you lower? How are the corbeaus with that respect?

Thanks, G

I have SRD's in my Carrera and find them to be a good bit lower than my stock power seats. They are low enough that I have to remove the seat to access the DME or relay. They are bolted to Recaro sliders and then to the floor. Can you guys change a DME relay without removing your seats?

At least in my case, I'm definitely sitting higher. I'm using the Recaro sliders and seat adapters, because they don't bolt-in to pre-74 cars, or something like that. Its a good seating position for around town, but I don't have headroom for a helmet, so I may have to fab seat frames to weld directly to the floor to lower them two inches next year.

I put them in a my '73 911 non-sunroof coupe using just the Recaro sliders (no adapters), and bolted them right to the floor with 3/4" square aluminum tubing to back up the sliders. They fit right in between the center welded-in factory slider rack and the outside longitudinals.

I put SRDs in my Carrera and used Recaro sliders -- love 'em! I gained 1.5" in headroom, which was just what I needed to get in there comfortably with my helmet. I also have the cutout and use 5 points.

Speedware made a bracket for me so that I could mount my original belts -- it is a flat square that mounts between the seat and the sliders. The result works great for me (and my wife as well), but if anyone really short wanted to drive they'd be hosed as the bracket for the inboard seat belt mount makes the stock belt stick out far enough to come in contact with the heater console.
Rgds,
TT

Edit: Oh, and I can get the DME relay and the DME itself out with the seats in. Found that out recently while putting in a SteveW chip.

Tom, did you get your SRDs from Speedware? Perhaps we could meet somewhere, I'd like to see your setup.
