67 911 calipers

having some difficulty locating calipers (rear) for a 67 911. these are solid rotors (not vented) or does one caliper fit either. would appreciate good mail order source.

Try some of the 914 specialists. I'm not familiar w/ any, you'll need to do a search.

I think I have a pair from a 69 that had solid rotors. Do you want me to check ?

sure...that would be great. if they will in fact fit ok. part of the problem is just finding cross ref numbers. the car i have (67 911) has been sitting idle and outside for about 3 years, so things are a little bound up and rusty. the brakes, rotors, calipers, etc. are just the tip. altho the body is very good. just the bare metal items really took a hit. let me know.

Those would be the Ate 'L' calipers on the '67. Check the mount spacing to see if the later 'M' rear calipers [3" spacing] can be fitted. If I recall correctly, the 'L' calipers used a more narrow spacing ...

The m calipers wer just for vented rotors right ? These are for non vented rotors. Thomas post the numbers on your parts and any identifying markings
so we can compare.

No, there were 'M' calipers without a spacer between the halves for non-vented rotors ... your '69 'M' calipers should not have spacers, and have 3" center-to-center distance between the mounting ears. I believe the 'L' calipers had only around 2.3" between the mounting ears, center-to-center.

VW used the 'M' calipers with non-vented disks on Type 3 models thru '73 or '74.

rear calipers for 67 911

here's some descriptive bits. the old calipers i removed have ata stamped on them..it really may be ate. very crusty and hard to see. the mounting holes measure 2.25" cntr to cntr.
hole size is .39"
calipers are 4.72" side to side
calipers are 5.30" front to back
could find no number, but the rubber dust seal had the following:
ata (or ate) 3004.1 44473 3-11.

the back calipers are noticebly smaller than the front.

hope this narrows it down some.

Tom,

Sounds like the Ate 'L' calipers I remember ... spacing and M10 bolts nails it!

ok....that is an option i have been considering. but haden't too much since i still held hope of just buying some. but..i had resigned myself to at least lining up someone to help or do some rebuilds. so, for starters, whats my cost should i decide to send these puppies off to you? that's 2 rear calipers.

Thomas,
I should have a pair. I upgraded my 67 911 normale front suspension with a complete 78 SC front suspension including S calipers and Bilsteins last year. My brakes were previously non-vented. Feel free to make me an offer for the pair.
