brake pad recommendations, early S calipers

Hi,

I have a 69 911e with "S" calipers. Getting ready to install stainless brake lines and new pads. Any recommendations for good brake pads? Car is run on the street and an occassional autocross. I can live with some brake dust but don't want noisy pads.

Thanks.

Chuck

Thanks for the recommendations. What else should I consider to stop real quick? Rotors? Master cylinder? Lines? Brake fluid?
Which brands?

With the 3.0 the car flies, I need to stop too!

Stock pads are great for street, I have Mintex F/R w/ stainless lines and Super Blue fluid, I was impressing everyone with my (otherwise stock) brakes at Streets of Willow last weekend. I also have ATE power discs on the front. My SC w/ new Bilstein Sports F/R REALLY slows down fast from 100+mph, Otto drove it and raved about the brakes. Tyson rode w/ me and was really surprised how late I could brake, new AVS ES 100s helped also. Good luck, I am sold on Mintex at the moment.

I use the Axxis . I'm not sure if there are different Axxis optional pads. I have the Axxis "soft" which are softer than stock. It's for a street car so I have a better response with the softer pads than stock because they are usually slammed at hy speeds when Cold and my front wheels don't lock up before the rears do any more. And I posted about using the pads in the steepest mountain down hill in the country, which was 8deg., and they held up very good.
I think JW suggested them........Ron

Ferados here. Haven't used them in the wet, but they are ready for the first stop of the morning w/o warming up.

Ditto here...in the DS 2000 compound, which I understand is no longer made? DS2500 is the replacement?

It would be cool if one of the magazines would do a really definitive test on pads and aftermarket rotors, controlled conditions on the same car under different variables such as hot/cold, etc. As it stands, all we have are opinions and "I like 'em", w/o knowing whether others have a camparative basis, IMO.

I should add that I had no idea that my brakes were working better than others until Otto and Tyson commented. How would I know??

Most of braking efficiency is a function of the tire and the road surface. For one braking application, the pads are not so important as the tires, road surface, surface condition, swept area of brakes. For racing and other repeated use situations, pad material becomes more important...

Thanks for pointing me to that thread. Sure come on down.

It would be great to have some sort of mid-Atlantic early car group drive or something (though snow and salt will be here soon).

The Ches. PCA is having a Swap Meet on December 7 in Cockeyville which isn't too far from the PA line.

http://www.pcachs.org/events/santaswapmeet.html

Yesterday I installed a front swap bar and got a good look at the brakes. Plenty of pad material and rotors look good but the car doesn't stop as well as I would like it too.

Did some "spirited" driving and realized I need better brakes...then bigger wheels, tires, etc. the list goes on

Ferodo DS2500, AP Racing 551 fluid, Porsche Rotors and real sticky tires.

Works real good for me. I have tried them up to 120mph

Has anyone heard of "performance friction" brake pads?
