Bumper installs
I konw this topic is sooooo sooooo played out, but I got my FG bumpers the other day and can't for the life of me figure out how to get them on. My body man says that I need to use the bumper underneath the FG part but from what I remember one of the major advantages is that you save the weight from the bumper blade.
In all my journeys, I have yet to see a picture of mounting brackets or perhaps even a tech article! Sorry I have to bring this up again, Adam OHHH the parts are from Peter at Rennspeed and the quality looks fantastic. Just can't figure out what to do with them!

This picture shows the bracket and how I used it to mount my GT racing IROC bumper.
Besides the bracket shown, the glass bumper is bolted to the body. (Pop-rivets would work also.) Note bumper shocks are gone. ![]()

I put on Peter's front RSR bumper. Drilled it and bolted it to the fender on the top by sandwiching the bumper between the fender and flat aluminum brackets. Replaced the bumper shocks with square aluminum stock in the middle. More aluminum on the bottom. I'm just a guy in a garage, so take it for what you think it's worth.
![]() The two bottom rods taper at the end and slip in the seam below the bumper's cooler opening. They are mounted to rubber at the pan, and support the bumper and cooler from below. ![]() The angle brackets attached to the bumper's studs line up with holes in the shock replacements, so you can drop a bolt through them to join them. ![]() Drilled the pan to mount the bottom rods. ![]() ![]()

So there deffinetly isn't a supportstructure under the bumper unless you fabricate one?

Adam, welcome to the world of fiberglass. As you are discovering, very few fiberglass parts come with any installation instructions. The manufacturers seem to assume only experienced body men buy their parts and instinctively know how to install them.

So looking at Yellowbird RSs diagram, I'm assuming that because my bumper has a down turned lip (parallel to the front hood support piece) that all I need to do is use some sheet metal screws or fasteners and bolt it into place?
If this bumper is hit in front, there isn't much internal frame protection, is this accurate? I'm going to call peter later and see what he says too. Adam

I'm not sure what you're asking, but it's pretty clear that there are a bunch of ways you can attach it. You just have to decide what's good enough. I remember when I talked to Peter that he said lots of guys just bolt the front bumper to the fender. You've got to figure out what you're comfortable with.

Whenever you install f/g bumpers you are decreasing ability of the car to absorb/deflect energy in a collision. You need to understand and accept that fact going in.
The shape of the f/g bumper is irrelevant except aerodynamically. A 6# piece of f/g has close to zero strength.
