Anyone try a laser parking system?
I've seen a number of laser gadgets that help you park just where you want when you pull in the garage. Anyone have any experience on how well they work? My garage is short and I like to pull the cars in just enough so as to leave as much room in front as possible. It will also help my wife stay on her side of the garage with her car

Not familiar with them, but how about the old tennis ball hanging from a string that hits the windshield when you are in, or a 4x4 on the floor that your tires hit when you're in the space?

I have a wheel barrow and a workbench. When they make a bang noise I'm in the garage far enough.

I currently have the tennis ball system but between the kids and the dog messing with them and the potential "coolness" of the laser, I wondered how well they work. The tirestop(4x4) is another liability waiting to happen for us, I know I'll forget its there and trip over it!

There are also different verions of the laser system. Is this the one that shoots a onto a predetermined spot on your hood or windshield?

I have one.
It hooks to your garage door opener, when you hit the remote it shoot a red lazer beam to any point you want. Just like the tennis ball, without the ball and string. You can get them at Costco for less than $20, shoots two beams for 2 cars. Works great, but if have a triple garage you'll need two.

Pelican sells a battery powered gizmo that has three lights.....green, yellow and red. Even my blonde wife can figure it out. Mounts on the back wall of the garage.
When entering the green light comes on, then the yellow telling Muffy that she's close....red means stop. She hasn't crunched the Yukon yet.....she HAS however come real clsoe to side swiping the 911.....I put a picture of the kids dead center on the back wall and told her to aim the rearview mirror at it....seems to have worked.

After my mother broke through the wall for the who knows how many times, may dad reinforced it with 2x4s...
If course, this was the day of the Ford LTD station wagons with huge bumpers. I think only the Caprice Classic was a larger station wagon... Used to call it 'The Devastation wagon'...It was kinda a purplish red... Could used one of those tennis ball things, but I don't think mom would have figured it out....

Better idea yet....
Mount a 4x4 horizontally out from the back wall at windshield height. When the 4x4 comes through the glass....stop! Bob

Why not a fresnel lens?
I can see it now... "You're at three quarters of a mile... call the ball... Roger... Maverick has the ball..." Tennis Ball is a little kitschy... so what we did was tied a monkey's fist around it. If you weren't parking, you could use it for a heaving line (anyone else sail?). Overkill was putting it on a remote controlled electronic motor/winch. Up and it's out of the way. Down and it's ready to park...
