I just rebuilt my tranny for less than $100

Well not actually. My 915 was always a little hard to get into second, every other gear was OK. A few weeks ago I changed tranny lube with Swepco and replaced the ball cup bushing and hanger support bushing when I installed the Seine gate shift kit.

Tranny still shifted the same. I had a pair of coupler bushings but said to myself, "the car only has 67K I probably won't need them".

So this morning I was looking to do something, {I power washed my under carriage, wheel wells and tranny and engine yesterday} so I pulled the inspection cover for the shift coupler and was suprised to see that the bushings had some slop in them. Changed the bushings, three taps with a hammer with a piece of rod and they were out. Put the new ones in and after a few times of trial and error adjusting I CAN'T BELIEVE THE DIFFERENCE!!! No more hard shifting into 2nd, the rest of the gears shift like silk! Wow this is what it's like to have a fresh tranny!

Go out right now and buy all the shifter bushings and do this immeadiatley!!! The shifting is smooth and the gate shift is positive, shifting is quicker.

Sorry for the rant, but I just had to tell someone.

Search the tech articles on this site for the bushing replacment and you shall FEEL the difference in some minor tweaking and new bushings to make the 915 less balkey shifting, Swepco and a little tenderness

I just rebuilt my transmission and replaced all the bushings. I machined some bronze bushings for the coupler. I heard stories of don't do it because of noise and added vibration but I have to tell you that mine shifts like silk (for a 915) and feels very precision. There is no wondering what gear you are in at all and in fact I just have some cheapo oil it in to break in. I'll drain it in a few hundred miles.

It makes me feel better that my ride is technically "normal" at it's current state.

I'm looking forward to attempting this fix!

Does Pelican carry the required bushings? I don't see the on line.

IMO, the shifting improvement came from adjusting the linkage after the bushing install.

I could see shifting being sloppy if the bushings were worn side to side, but I've never seen that. They're under a light load in use.

Front to back there is more force, but then again the factory bushings already have some play designed in.
