And the Number One Reason Not to Own a Boxster

From the Boxster Board:

Hi Guys!
After looking long and hard at 911's & 986 i have to say (briefly) that the Boxster is alot more;
1/ Fun
2/ Cheaper
3/ And I just look so darn cute in it compared to the 911

Both great cars but if you don't need a 2 seater I'd go with the 986.

Vanessa

juanbenae 11-26-2003 10:26 AM

post a pic of this vanessa to really get this post. if shes all calente its fine.

Icemaster 11-26-2003 10:26 AM

I can see the head bob and hair flip from here.... Totally!!!

In high school, we used to call the VW Cabriolet the "Catholic High School Girls car."

I guess a Boxster is what they drive when they grow up.

Rot 911 11-26-2003 10:29 AM

And the number two reason is that there are some very weird people over there. Apparently Mark hasn't been completely honest with us:

I'm a 22 year old female with a sports car too! Look at me!

Well, I guess I should own up.

Just kidding. I was making fun of the idea of a 22 yo with a Boxster posting on these forums. C'mon, be real. Just be honest about being a lonely 45-year-old divorcee with nothing else to do besides get attention on forums by pretending to be young and female.

Joe Bob 11-26-2003 10:41 AM

My bet is that it's a guy named "Bob" that wears comfortable shoes.....

Sarah 11-26-2003 10:49 AM

I thought the #1 reason not to own one was because you couldn't tell it was a porsche until you got up close and then passed it. ;) just teasing...

targa911S 11-26-2003 11:18 AM

And a tiptronic makes it so much easier to talk on the phone too! I just put my latte in the cupholder while I check my make up and make sure above all.....I look good.

tchanson 11-26-2003 11:20 AM

Oh great. Now we'll have to await the seemingly inevitable, sniffling "why don't you love Boxsters??" posts...:)

For what its worth, I think Boxsters make everyone look a darn lot cuter, not just Vanessa.

They also make colors seem brighter, bring sunshine on a rainy day, and when its cold outside, they're better than the month of May. Rumor has it they also help prevent static cling.

Tim

targa911S 11-26-2003 11:23 AM

Vanessa could be a whale too. It would take a bunch of Boxsters to work that mojo.

Zeke 11-26-2003 11:37 AM

*Sigh* I give up. The trouble with you Boxster bashers is that you don't know a good thing when you see it. But don't give it rest now, dig harder and see what other needless swipes you can come up with.

The thing saved Porsche's financial ass. You'd all rather have no Cayene's, no 996's and no factory. Well, it's not gonna happen.

It's been suggested that Michael Jackson has a psychological problem with maturity. He may want to stay a child and not want to live in the current world as an adult.

Could it be..........? Come on, I have my flame suit on. You can bash me, I'm an un-repentant Boxster supporter and won't be subdued.

You forgot to mention the unicorn sitings that go along with driving one...

Zeke 11-26-2003 11:44 AM

I used my Boxster to jump start the 'Ragamuffin' this morning. Hehehehehehe...HAHAHAHA. Shoulda got a pic of that.

Ah, the joys of big throat MFI.........

ubiquity0 11-26-2003 11:48 AM

I don't mind them myself. I'd rather have one than the 996 whale & their other 'product' that doesn't really bear thinking about. The only bad thing about the Boxster is that Porsche refuses to make a clubsport version. So they're preffered by yuppies & valley girls? Like the 930 was only driven by enthusiasts & shunned by cheeseball stock traders & glitter chicks in the '80s... not

I'll support Zeke here. I like Boxsters with hard tops and manual transmissions.

On the first point about Club Sport...couldn't a consumer buy a Boxster and then rip out whatever they dont like and have a psuedo CS version? Or is the Boxsters innards way too integrated?

On the second point...Bingo.

Icemaster 11-26-2003 12:01 PM

I'd be real surprised if a Boxster was as popular in twenty years as a 930 is today...

targa911S 11-26-2003 12:03 PM

I love ALL Porsches.well maybe not 924s, although I owned one of those too.. But then to each his / her own.

Funny, didn't the Porsche 356 owners say similar things about the Porsche 911?

ruf-porsche 11-26-2003 12:06 PM

How many people wish they had a midengine 550 porsche from the 50's?

Today Boxster could be the next 550.

Boy how I wish I didn't sell my 340 Cuda with the six pak just to buy a Triumph Spitfire for the ex.

sammyg2 11-26-2003 12:07 PM

In a few years when boxster prices hit bottom I plan to get one, strip all the excess garbage of it, and kick butt on the AX track. Modern suspension, mid engine, and with the extra stuff stripped out, proper power to weight ratio. Think Boxser RS.

Stock boxsters are fast on tight tracks, with the right modifications they are killer.

I can get past the image thing, driving a boxster won't bother me a bit.

I'll give him that. But where's the real comparison? They make 25,000 Boxsters anually. Anything as scarce as a 930 is popular with those in the know. Hell, that goes for '67 VW convertables (more scarce than a 930 and nearly as costly)

I appreciate the support, but that's not gonna happen either. The Boxster is a good car, well engineered, but at the numbers being produced, it will be plentiful in the future. This is the bane of a collector car. It's a today car. That was the point of my diatribe.

n8marx 11-26-2003 12:36 PM

Hi. My name is Nate. I like Boxsters.

I drove a charcoal grey Boxster S last Spring for a few minutes. The grin still returns to my face when I think about that car.

Victor 11-26-2003 12:59 PM

I have had my arse whipped at the track by several Boxters.

Absolutely. My point exactly, thank you.

Same here. Let's just hope they are not as junky as all the 924 for the same price.

maybe i could like them. ..if only i was a hairdresser........:D

rickeolis 11-26-2003 01:43 PM

Boxsters bad, 911's good- uugh.

Now you Boxster people have to worry about the dumb blondes who read 'Self' Magazine keying your cars!!

Joe Bob 11-26-2003 01:45 PM

dumb blondes who read 'Self' Magazine
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

That statement is redundant.....

12own911 11-26-2003 01:49 PM

Hey, I resemble that statement. :D

rickeolis 11-26-2003 01:59 PM

Yeah, but we like you Kim, you wouldn't key one of our cars!;)

See the Zois' family TG post.....

Adam 11-26-2003 02:19 PM

I like the idea of Boxster RS, if only it was possible to ditch the "fried egg" headlamps. Ungh.. Why build a great looking little car and then put ugly headlamps on it? That's a real issue that would keep me from buying one in a few years. Maybe if you could retro-fit the '02 996 headlamps... add a little bondo etc... :D

[edit] Edited again to correct my spelling of "Boxster".

jester911 11-26-2003 02:30 PM

I think mikez touched on what I have thought about boxters for a long time.

They are a lot like the 914 was when it first came out.
The 911 guys gave it no respect at all. Then a few guys drove them and the next thing you know they were the fastest things on the track.

Nowadays 914s still aren't quite 911 status but most of us look at them and say, you know those things really aren't bad.

I think years from now it will be the same for the boxter.
I am not a real fan of it and I think the rear end looks bulbous and weird but like the 914 it has potential.

I am sure with the right set up the thing could be a mean track car.

Of course I look at my car and say wow its a pretty mean car as it is. I guess that is why they don't make just one type of car.

It would be a boring world if that were true.;)

SRISER 11-26-2003 02:39 PM

I would own one...as long as it had a Kevlar/ceramic cupholder for my latte...

That was a joke Zeke!!!:D

Notice that I capitalized Kevlar?

I don't mind them at all and glad it saved Porsches hiney. I would own one if Porsche would make a Boxster RS with 375hp.

lateapex911 11-26-2003 02:50 PM

If they built one like the show car, I would be on it like white on rice!

Or.......if they changed the front end..(Shorter! shorter! too much overhang!!), lightened it up a bit, I would buy one.

As it is, it is partly to thank for the cool cars Porsche now makes: the GT-2, the GT-3, and the big kahuna, the Carrera!

And if hot chicks like them, who am I to argue?

Here, here !! Agreed. Give the thing the power it deserves and all other arguments would vanish. Build a stock Boxster with 375hp and one will be sitting proudly in my driveway next to the 911. I think the retro styling was a nice idea. Too bad they also gave it retro horsepower.
