Suspect Ignition switch?

1984 3.6 No start, no crank

12V to the starter but not 7.5V to soleniod with the key in the start position. Also headlights won't come on with key in On position. I am using a brand new optima red top +12.6V verified with multimeter. Also verfied continuity of solenoid wire.

All grounds are good, new strap from tranny, battery cables are new/clean.

Am I missing something or do I need to get the old credit card out and place an order?

Have you tried jumping the connection from the hot part of the starter to the solenoid? That will verify the wiring, starter, battery, and solenoid are good, the only thing left would be the switch and associated BS that goes with the switch. It sure sounds like the switch to me.

LEGAL DISCLAIMER: I know I don't have to say this, but before jumping hte starter make sure the wheels are chocked and it is out of gear, or better yet use a remote starter switch ($5 harbor freight).

I had the same problem on my 86 Carrera, turned out to be a bad solenoid.

Cheers,

Joe

Look under your dash at the round, six pin connectors plugged into the bulkhead directly behind your ignition switch. Check to see if one is pulled or pulling out. If not, unplug them all, one at a time and plug them back in. Check all your fuses again and then give it another try.
