Does Anybody Know What This Nut/bolt Go To?
I was doing some work under my car the other day and noticed an oil leak around this nut. I put a wrench on it and it was way lose. I checked the others around it (same size) and they were much tighter, so I tightened it. I heard a creaking sound then a small crack. EEEEW, not what I wanted to hear. I didn't touch it with the wrench after that, but I checked with my hand. Feels ok, but I'm concerned as to what this thing belongs..

Hmm, didn't realize there were more nuts in that pic. It's the one in the middle of the pic with orange stuff on it.

You piqued my curiosity, so I got Wayne's Engine rebuild book out. According to the book it is one of the nuts on one of the studs that hold the case halves together.
Pic from Waynes book ![]() Hope posting this scan isn't a bad thing, Wayne.

That stud likes to strip out on 2.7's. I think John Walker said you can remove the stud and tap the hole for a (short) bolt. It won't hold the case together but it will stop the leak.
