Tire Fitment Gurus - spring plate clearance question -

So here's the deal - a buddy of mine is giving me a great deal on some Kinesis 17 inch wheels with Hoosiers. I would like to use these as track wheels only.

With the stock 930 28 mm rear spacers on I have maybe 3 mm from the inner spring plate bolt to the tire rubber. In the pictures I attached, the shaft of the wrench is 5mm. I have a 5 mm spacer I could add, which oddly enough then gives me about 10mm of clearance. The problem is that I then only get about 6 turns on the lugs (which does not seem to be enough). A 30 mm spacer would probably be about perfect I guess, but I am wondering if they are o.k. as is. I would prefer not to grind down the spring plate bolts.

Any advice is appreciated.

Oh, I wouldn't grind anything! Esp those bolts. It's pretty easy to change the studs. I changed one without having to remove the hub. Just had to remove the rotor and the e-brake adjuster to get the room to fit the new one in from behind. Or, go to a 3 mm specer as you said. But, check how many turns you get before any A/X or Track ing.

Thanks Bill - I was hoping you would reply. Although hard to tell in the pictures, it looks like your upper bolt may be even closer than mine. I assume you have never had any rubbing there?

I was just out test driving the car with the new wheels and I did not hear or feel anything. I will do a little more spirited driving and then pull everything off and check for rub marks. I really want these wheels to work as my buddy is giving me a great deal and they look and feel great. Plus, they are about 20 pounds lighter than the stock hollow spoke 996TT wheels I run on the street.

The wheels I'm using are back-spaced as much as possible.
I ground off the pring plate bolts flush with the nuts.
Works perfectly with maybe 2mm to spare. Has never rubbed in years of use.

Well it is probably o.k. as it is then. The only rubbing I have found so far is a slight rubbing on the wiper washer fluid reservoir when the wheels are turned to the extreme left (I doubt I would ever turn the wheels that far left on the track). Still - maybe an excuse to remove that thing. I have the second 1 liter reservoir in the trunk, so I can just tap into that. Hmm - maybe then I will have room for a seond oil cooler in the driver's side front fender.
