930 3.0L and SSIs

Anyone installed SSIs on a 930 3.0L and fabricated or bot a two into one (turbo) pipe for the SSI heat exchanger/header outlets to turbo inlet?

Good question. It would be a complicated crossoverpipe though as there is not much room under the pully anyway and thats where it would have to go. You could completely relocate the turbo I guess, but where? Also, this would be an even longer route for the exhaust gases to travel which means lower EGTs at the turbo which = slower moving gases = bad. hmmm

Why is it longer? The traditional cross over to the Y pipe goes all the way across as well rigt to left. Just at the back instead of the front.

I guess you would have to measure. You may be correct.

It would look something like the white pipe in this picture.

Want to install the GHL 3" or 4" twin outlet muffler and see the effect on turbo lag then possibly put in SSIs with a custom crossover to the turbo like in that picture. Muffler first though if I can get the flange dimensions/ bolt pattern. Mine are 76MM square and it seems the 930 are 70mm?

There is a picture in Bruce Anderson's book showing a 930 engine with backdated heat exchangers. This is considered an upgrade from the very restrictive smog pipes that come stock. Turbo lag would be reduced, stock N/A heat exchangers are shorter than the smog exhaust of the US 930. The Euro exhaust also has a long run from exhaust port to turbo.

It goes in the same place - mounted on a little extension pipe off the cross over connecting the SSI outlets to the turbo.
But who has one??
Theory is nice but.....

The crossover pipe you are discribing is very similar, if not the same as, the aftermarket pipe used for 2.7 and 3.0L N/A turbo conversions in the 80's. Rajay and others made this unit. You should make your own so that everything goes where you need it to. The muffler, turbo and wastegate share the same space.
