Some carnage pics
This is (was) a 1986 930. The car took out a pole, flipped over a few times. Then it spent 5 years outside without windows, after having had the drivetrain and suspension removed.
We finally decided to get to it, and remove what can be saved before crushing it. How do you move a shell? easy, a caterpillar, a rope: Still lots to save here: Finished the work, ready for the crusher: we still managed to save 2 leather sportseats that will be converted to manual use, wiper and headlight flaher commands, intermittent wiper thingie, fuel pump, some sheetmetal, door handles, a factory short shifter, windshield washer pump, the loudspeaker fader, engine comp. light, and some misc. electricals. Saved way over 2K from the hulk. Oh yes, the chassis plates are removed and stored, so that nobody can try and forge a new ID to a stolen car. |

Just kidding.

I used a wrecked '87 as a parts donor for my '73 hot rod. Before scrapping the shell, I took of every little nut, bolt, and screw off to save for whatever.
When removing the rear bumper shock with a 3/8 drive socket, I lifted the tub off the jackstands! Not much left for the crusher. When I took the tub to the steel scrapyard, they did require proof of ownership, to make sure it was not stolen. State law. |

What?!?!

That's just amazing. I love Porsches!!
Even when one is taken out of service, it is treated with care and given a proper resting place. The ID was removed to prevent thugs from polluting the gene pool. Very cool. |

That's the kind of thing they sell on Ebay as "easy fix".

That was a pretty car, from the looks of it.
Looks like it used its rear end for the battering ram, in true 911, (or demolition derby), fashion. Do you happen to know the factory color? Hard to tell from pics, could be paint-to-sample slate blue, a color that was not available on 1986 M.Y., only 1983-85. Was this your car originally, or just one that was at the bone yard? Thanks for the pictures.

Denis, the car was dark grey, once repainted in the original color. It was not my car.
Don, we were not about to let the ID plates go with the car, they are in safe hands, along some others. The worse is that we do that with a...'72 2.4S in a few weeks, that is sooo far gone from rust we can't save it. That one will give me a few vital parts for my own RS, though. |

George, you're amazing! It's a shame to see once beautiful cars recycled into sewer pipe...but kudos to you for saving what you can!
