Steve W chip and emissions
Just passed the Missouri emissions test with a Steve W chip installed on my otherwise stock 87.
Here are the numbers for Grams/mile Mine Passing standards HC .1259 .8000 CO 5.8457 15.0000 NOx .8299 2.0000 CO2 257.9849 na Feel free to comment on these values as they do not mean much to me.

Are those in g/mile or % and ppm?

The numbers do not seem correct. Here's what my '88 3.2 did on the
last emissions dyno test (per CA requirements): 15 mph CO - .06 (avg .10 - max .74), HC - 27 (avg 31 - max 116), NOx - 28 (avg 237 - max 791), CO2 - 14.3 25 mph CO - .05 (avg .09 - max .62), HC - 20 (avg 20 - max 91), NOx - 30 (avg 199 - max 730), CO2 - 14.3 As can be seen, the 911 3.2 runs very clean based on the state's average numbers. Your CO number, if I read it correctly, is almost 6% which is very high. Also, none of the other numbers make any sense either. The other unknown is how the test was run, i.e. just at idle/2000rpm or on a dyno at various speeds which most states now do. Please provide additional info. Loren '88 3.2

The numbers are in grams/mile.
The dyno emissions went through the gears including fifth. The beginning of the test included holding the rpms at a constant. I could not see the numbers clearly but it sounded about 2000 rpms. Then the test progressed to higher rpms and shifting through the gears up to fifth. The test involved multiple sessions where they had the car in second gear for a while at a constant speed then onto 3rd and hold, back to second then up through the gears. The following info is from the web site: Your 1981 or newer vehicle’s exhaust pollutants will be measured using a computer-controlled test that simulates actual driving conditions (acceleration and deceleration). Your vehicle will be driven on a dual-roller machine called a dynamometer, or dyne. Completing the full enhanced drive test takes 240 seconds and simulates a drive of just under two miles. The computer continuously checks your vehicle’s emissions against standards for your vehicle’s make, model and

Your test sounds the same as California's.
The typical units most states use are; 1. CO as percent of volume 2. HC as parts per million 3. NOx as parts per million Most tests don't involve downshifting unless there's a problem. The typical test starts the driving at 15mph for less than a minute then the car is shifted to a higher gear and run at 25mph for about 30 seconds. The time spent at each speed is determined by how clean the engine runs (the less clean the longer at each speed). If the engine doesn't reach a clean mode, then the test is aborted and the car is considered a gross polluter. It's posible that the tester was having a problem "finding" clean emissions on your car requiring all that shifting. It would help it your numbers were in the typical units. Have Fun Loren '88 3.2

Michael, Randy - thank you for posting the information about your test results. Randy, it sounds like they put your car through quite a grueling test. Since the O2 sensor is always in effect at idle and part throttle, fuel mixture will generally remain at the stoichiometric 14.7:1 for best fuel efficiency and emissions. Congratulations on your passing though.

My car was tested at the Manhattan Auto Center, 222 N. PCH.
Also, I found too many problems with performance chips and don't have one installed. As can be seen by the posted numbers, my car runs very clean and has great power by doing just some minor tweaking. Additionally, it has no idle problems, no backfiring, no pinging, no surging when cold, and gets good mileage. Have Fun Loren '88 3.2

Thanks, Loren.
I go there also, for my other cars, but the last time i got a smog request for my 911, it directed me to a "TEST CENTER" only. Manhattan Auto Center couldn't even do it. I had to bring it to the tented smog center on Sepulveda, across from Man. Village Mall. Mike
