Engine/Tranny Drop Q

About to drop for the first time my engine. The axels were out for rehab so I've elected to drop the engine and tranny together. Not alot of additional info around on doing this. I have removed the sway bar and the ground strap. Any other last minute words of advice?

Also, is there a specific order to remove engine mounts? Can I take the tranny ones off with a jack supporting in the center of the engine/tranny?

A few things to keep in mind:

There is a wire that goes from the chassis to the starter that must be disconnected.

Shifter coupling, speedometer wires (Rear center tunnel, passenger compartment)

For the engine compartment it is somewhat easier if you remove the airbox and blower assy before disconnecting the following:

Wiring harnesses: Collection of ground wires on #1 intake, large plug that connects to the relay board in the engine compartment. Fuel injector harness, back of engine compartment behind #3

Fuel lines - the one on the top of the fuel filter, and the fuel return pipe, behind #3

Any vacuum hose that connects from the engine to the chassis

Unbolt the AC compressor and move it off to the side - use some sort of cushoning on your rear fender.

Drain engine of oil, disconnect S hose from tank to sump, also disconnect oil line to front oil cooler.

Also, disconnect throttle linkage and hoses from heater boxes to heater valves, look for a strap supporting clutch cable to front end of transmission; if there remove. Disconnect lines to oil tank/external thermostat. Jim

transp drop

I plan to do an engine/trans drop over the holidays. Have you seen the jack mount at PP. Try engine tools. It's an attachment that keeps a floor jack at the balance point of the assembly.

I do most of my work solitary so this looks like a worthwhile ~$160.

I think things will go back together faster also.

I made a $10 wood dolly and it worked great. I definitely would not spend the money on anything to raise or lower the engine. I would spend the money on the engine stand fixture, once the motors out it's evident why you'll want one. Also, i took pictures of everything I removed or disconnected and then labelled the photo's.
