howto replace speedo sending unit?
I have the part in hand (an electronic Speedometer Sending unit) for a 1988 911.... I need help in locating the place to actually replace the thing, and any details on connecting each of the ends.
Thanks! |

If it's anything like the one on an '83 SC, it's on the right side of the gearbox, abeam the ring gear if you can imagine where that is inside the box. It's held in place by a springy clip that can be easily loosened and turned out of the way. Be sure to put the new unit into the socket in which it fits exactly as the old one was, in terms of which side of the unit faces in. If you get it backward, the speedo won't work. I don't think the wires are critical in terms of which color on which tab, but just replace them the same way they were on the faulty unit.

Thanks. I found another thread by user "KTL" back on May 7, 2003 that helped too.
I got it installed in about an hour! |
