If you had an option, which one?

Which would you buy in 2004?

87 motronic engine with G50 trans in a nice light 73 kinda RS clone...
Hell, it is a wish. Might as well have them throw in the twin turbo.

Which do you like? An 83SC makes you eligible to be a member of subversive cult, but with an 83SC it'll have most SC problems licked. The 84 Carrera is essentially the same, but with some more HP. The 87 Carrera has a more "civilized" transmission, but other than that, it's pretty much the same. They all look the same to me. Why not go in a completely different direction and get a long hood?

For free? The 87 Carrera... just because it's the one on the list that I probably can't afford!

'83 SC is one of the best values for the money in the used Porsche line. Not that I have any bias on this question. Nah.

Cheers!
