1984 thru 1988 Carrera, was there a Carrera S ?

Just curious about this because I never saw a '84 thru '88 Carrera S. Was the S dropped during these years? I have seen a 993 Carrera S. BTW, what is the difference between a standard Carrera and the Carrera S?

There was a Carrera CS (club sport), which is said to be one of the best 911s around.

the S , T and E were stopped by 78 when the SC ( super carrera ) came out 84 -89 they were just called carreras but from 84 -89 they also had the turbo-look which was known as the super sport in europe or carrera SS

I think that you mean '84-'89(?), at any rate, they did make a Carrera "S" model. Sort of.

The "S" model that you refer to, (993), is simply a wide body version, and a wide body version was offered in the '80s but it was called the "turbo look" or "turbo chassis" version, not the "S" model. The '80s car is also sometimes refered to by its internal option code, M491.

There is also a wide body, "S" version of the 996.

Regarding the 993 Carrera S I saw, that was years ago in a show room and the sales person thought the 993 series S had some suspension improvements over the standard Carerra and it was a wide body.

There was a 911CS version which had some very minor performance enhancments, such as lighter valves, slightly higher rev limit, and some minor weight savings steps. There was also the semi race 911 SC/RS which came in 2 versions: street and Rally, a very desireable successor to the original '73RS.

The 964 (in Noth Amerca anyway) came in a 964RS version which had weight saving steps similar to the 911CS. There was also a 964 Cup which had same desireable performance enhancements and is well thought of.

The 993(again in North America) did have an S version which consisted mostly of a wide body on the same underpinnings as the regular 993 i.e. same engine and suspension
