What's the best/most reliable engine?
Hi everybody. New guy here stuck in sunny Costa Rica.
I just took a plunge and trade it Corvette for a Porsche. I use to have a Porsche in Vancouver, Canada and when I saw the chance to have one here, I went for it. "BUT" I do have few issues/problems with the car. First and foremost it's a complete Heinz 57. Papers 68/912 Engine 2.7 turbo Twin tale Wide like hell Large brakes etc. To much to list. Very interesting and attractive car - trust me! ![]() Question: What's the best/most reliable P engine I should put in? TIA |

Opening a can of worms are we?
![]() Check out the engine article here at Pelican Parts, it has some good info on the different engines... Time to Rebuild? I'm partial to the 3.2 engine. I have a 3.2 with 174k miles, no rebuild and it still pulls strong. Knock on wood though...

68, that's a short wheelbase car, isn't it? A turboed 2.7 in a SWB car, I hope you are either real good or have large testicles, that has to be a monster to drive, but in a good way.

I think the most reliable would be a NA 3.0 or 3.2. The best NA would be a 993 engine (with updated - fresh valve guides).

I do have some photos, but hate to post them. The car is a part right
now. Rebuilding completely the suspension (custom stronger), brakes (bigger), shocks (new) etc. Next is the body. Everything off, fix and paint (red). Then electric windows, sound and custom interior. I will try the engine for few days, but who knows (it was build in Costa Rica), so I am sure I will need a new one. The engine will go out before the paint job anyway and will see. That's why I asked "what is the best" engine. Would you go 2.7, 3.0, 3.2, 3.6 turbo or with out. That's the question. I'll be interested to see what is available. Complete engine with tranny. Low miles or rebuild. I've seen some from $2,500 to $15,000. Or other will be to buy low miles/km front accident Porsche, cut the sucker and ship it here to CR. Anybody can give me some ideas - what's available and some prices? Most likely it will be 3 weeks before I will post a photos. Can you wait that long boys? ![]() |
