2.7 engine heater hose question

I have a carbed 2.7 in my 914/6.....my question is on the heater hoses that come off of the fan.

The hoses attach to twin ducts that then pass thru the engine tin to the heat exchangers below. Fresh air supplied by the fan then flows through the HEs and go to the flapper valves and into the ducting into the cab....

Do the hoses go through the tin by themselves in one piece? Or do they use a rolled piece of tin at the sheet metal, attached with hose clamps, making it a two piece hose on each side?

My thinking is that by going through as a one piece hose the sharp edges of the tin would tend to rub and cut into the hose?

If there is a rolled tube, what is the part # or does someone have a picture so that I can fabricate something..... OR is there a rubber grommet there, OR what....?

Heres A pic. Not sure if the 914 uses the same tin as the 911 though...

But on the 911, it's just a one piece hose. It's very durable and hard so shouldn't be damaged easily.

i think i know what you are asking. how do the heater hoses go through the sheet metal to the HE's?
PatS, nice job by the way. that the same motor you posted pics of you and your wife joining the cases?
back to question. i had the same problem. with the eng in the car with AC i did not have a clean run through the tins. i went to a muffler shop and they gave me a 4" piece of exhaust pipe to go through the tin. i then attached heater hoses that i shorten to it. i basically had a 8" hose from my tube to the HE. it was easy, only two extra clamps needed. make sense?

Yes it does....That's what I had in mind and will probably do. My concerns were the tin cutting into the hoses....looks like we have/had the same idea. Thanks for the input.

mine got cut when i tried to stuff it through. it just started unraveling.
make sure you take your grinder and clean the sharp edges on the piece-o-pipe. it is like razors.

unfixed, yep that is the same engine.
See summer projects under http://home.comcast.net/~74porsche911/ for a few more pics.
Got 800 miles on it now and it runs great. I am amazed at how nice the 2.7 with std cams pulls. The S cams must be incredible
