There really is a Carrera RS in the 'Marble Rye' Seinfeld episode...

I had heard about it be never seen it for myself. It's red, parked on the street in front of George's inlaws. Pretty cool.

Chris.

Probably a good way to get the production company to buy the car, and then sell it back to Seinfeld after the shoot at a significant markdown -- if that sort of thing would even be important to a guy with Seinfeld's money.

The car is orange, it has a 2.8, and the "right" side mirror is installed in the wrong place!

Probably close. The production company always gets to buy the car and somebody gets the spoils, that's certain. I'm sure Jerry had 'something' to do with it. I just want his 911R.

Usually production companys avoid buying because that means they have to get rid of stuff after the shoot. They prefer to rent because it's easier to locate and they don't have to worry about where the stuff goes after the shoot. I've seen them rent stuff from prop houses they could buy cheaper but it's one stop shopping. When it comes to cars they have a big file of owners with cars of all types. When it's time for a shot they just get on the phone and round them up. The pay is *****ty though. Car owners tend to lowball the thing because they want their car in a movie or TV show.

That's true. But if you're the production company for Seinfeld, and your star suggests you buy a particular Porsche, and then sell it to him at what he considers a reasonable price, you probably don't even blink. The value of keeping a star happy far outweighs normal policies.

I remember one of the producers of Natural Born Killers talking about how she had the screenwriter specify a Hemi Challenger for use in the movie so that she could buy it back from the production, cheaply. In her case (she wasn't a particularly big producer), the production went along with it, but wouldn't go so far as to get an actual Hemi model. They pointed out that they could put the Hemi badging on, and there wouldn't be a difference on film. She couldn't convince them otherwise, but still got to buy the (non-Hemi) Challenger at the end of the shoot.

Wayne knows something about this, maybe he could chime in. His 356 was used in the movie 'Almost Famous' he once told me.

Seinfeld already owned the orange RS, he used it in an episode where he was trying to avoid being seen by someone and ducked behind the ducktail of an orange RS that just happened to be parked on the street in Manhattan(!) [Was athat the marble rye episode? I don't think so.] Of course, his series was filmed in El Lay.

I saw the car around a lot a few years ago. At Aurel & Don's being worked on (where they worked on his 911R also) and I got to look it over up close. The underside of the floor pans is finished as beautifully as the topside of most of our cars. It's like new, though the sport seats had a perforation pattern unlike the original seats. The shop knew that and so did Jerry, but as they put it; when you find an NOS set of black leather Recaro sport seats, you just buy 'em.

Yes it is the marble rye one where they are trying to sneak the rye back into the inlaws place. Just watched it tonight in St. Louis. I rewinded the scene and paused with Tevo - nice ride.

Go Rams!!!!

Sounds about right Jack. Producers... don't get me started. The post side almost always gets it up the wazzu. "I'm sorry but production costs went over so we don't have much money left."

On a similar note, I bought Seinfeld's book "Halloween" for my sons. On the last page there is a RS 'model' on Seinfeld's night stand. I though that was pretty cool.

Has anybody got an update on Jerry's garage in NYC? I've walked by there a half-dozen times in the last few weeks and there is no sign of work in progress- even the Yoga Studio that was *****ing about the project has put their signs up on the plywood that covers the building's facade.

I personally cannot WAIT for it to be completed. I can imagine passing by there on the way home just in the hope his MFI will be all out of whack!

When working in Toronto...we had a production that bought 12 identical Cadillacs for the shoot.
Four were crashed...2 were burned....2 or 3 more were banged up pretty good.
Funny thing was....at the wrap....all the cars were gone...accounting wrote them off.
Never did find out where they all went.
