964 Heat Exchanger On 3.2?
Can the 964 3.6L heat exchanger be used on the Carrera 3.2L? With modifications? Would it improve the 3.2L's breathing?
I did a search but couldn't find anything.

it seems that the 964 heat exchangers hit my clutch arm, you may be able to do it with little mods on a g50, if you have a 915 you need to be a fabricator to get everything to work, which will consist of some fab and welding, you would probably be better off with real ssi's or B&B headers, Kevin

Yah but 964 HEs are cheap. Interesting question, I wonder what the Tube diameters are - Might breath better on top end but kill the torque. Maybe 993 HEs are the way to go as far as fitment. I have heard they breath great but the tube size may be an issue again. Seems like the 3.6 guys have had good luck using these on earlier car transplants. Of course they are more expensive but still not as much as SSI, BB etc.

Bill, do you happen to have the equivalent specs for the OEM 3.2 exhaust somewhere in the Encyclopedia Porschitannica of yours?
BTW, the reason I was interested is for smog purposes. I thought perhaps the 964 heat exchangers would look OEM and be adaptable to the 3.2L's cat or pre-muffler (or maybe the 964's cat might be adaptable to the 3.2L) so as to pass California visual as well as tailpipe.

Unfortunately not. Most of those #S came from my own measurements of parts that I had laying around. Never had a 3.2 to play w/
I had meant to agree w/ Kevin's thoughts on the matter. But I never tried that particular setup. At one time when I was trying to sell the 964 exhaust I posted the same question but got no responses, never pursued the matter further.

Well, one of my contemplated projects for this year is the exhaust (I have a 3.2L). Even if I keep the existing OEM HEs I'll at least remove and clean them, so I'll try to remember to take measurements.
Bill, how did you measure cfm? Do you have a flow bench?

I have accurate wts. for a stock 3.2 exhaust if you want. You might want to e me @ xrw@att.net if I don't check this thread again. No data on flow.
